    Abstract: A mobile telephone system multiplexes plural voice traffic channels on a single carrier using a TDMA protocol. The capacity of the mobile telephone system is increased by assigning voice traffic capacity, not on a conversation basis, but on an information burst basis. In order to avoid compromising the voice transmission capacity, control signals (for the allocation and deallocation of both forward and reverse traffic channels) are sent using multiple diversity, i.e. both time and frequency. In addition, to increase the number of available control channels, a control channel comprises a sub-divided portion of an otherwise equivalent voice traffic slot. For reverse allocation requests, which are transmitted over a contention access channel, power diversity is used in addition to time and frequency diversity.

    Abstract: A mobile telephone system multiplexes plural voice traffic channels on a single carrier using a TDMA protocol. The capacity of the mobile telephone system is increased by assigning voice traffic capacity, not on a conversation basis, but on a speech spurt basis. Accordingly, delays of undetermined duration may occur between subsequent information bursts which correspond to the transmission of speech spurts. An adjustment request regarding the power with which the information bursts are transmitted from a transmitting station to a receiving station is generated by detecting an information burst transmission at the receiving station, measuring the time which elapses following the transmission, and comparing the elapsed time with a predetermined threshold value. If the elapsed time exceeds the threshold, a further transmission is requested from the transmitting station notwithstanding the availability of any information to transmit.

    Abstract: System for providing self-selection arbitration among a plurality of slave processors connected to a VME back plane. The slave processors are connected to a common ID bus, interrupt line, and acknowledge bus. Slave processors contend for access to the VME back plane by asserting an interrupt level unique to a group of slave processors on the interrupt line. Simultaneously, the contending slave processors apply their respective addresses to the ID bus. When a contending slave processor receives an acknowledge over the acknowledge bus from a master processor, and senses its own address on the ID bus, it has successfully won the right to transmit data over the data bus.

    Abstract: An electronic key telephone system is disclosed that provides a plurality of telephone features and functions, while only requiring a four-wire line between the central equipment and each key-set telephone (KST) and a two-wire line between the central equipment and each single-line telephone (SLT). Linear delta coding and time division multiplex (TDM) techniques are used to eliminate the multiple pairs required in traditional private business exchange (PBX) systems between the remote key telephones and the control unit. In the present system, a microprocessor controlled TDM controller transmits and receives control signals serially to and from interfaces in the system for control purposes and also for establishing exchange of digitized audio information data between selected interfaces. The system thus exchanges digitized audio information directly between interfaces and provides control signalling between the TDM controller and the interfaces, with all of the exchanges being done in real time.
