    Abstract: The subject invention is directed towards tire components comprising rubber compositions comprising (1) about 2 phr to about 45 phr of a trans-1,4-isoprene-butadiene copolymer which has about 4 weight percent to about 16 weight percent butadiene repeat units and from about 84 weight percent to about 96 weight percent isoprene repeat units, wherein the trans-1,4-isoprene-butadiene copolymer has a Mooney ML 1+4 viscosity which is within the range of about 35 to about 80; and (2) about 55 phr to about 98 phr of at least one other elastomer, preferably a diene based elastomer. The most preferred tire components are those which contain cord reinforcements and require adequate green strength to enhance the tire building and shaping process to maintain cord integrity in the final cured tire.

    Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a carcass having an axis of rotation and a tread disposed radially outward of the carcass. The tread includes a plurality of grooves and a plurality of tread blocks located between the grooves. Each of the tread blocks has a road-contacting surface and at least one wall extending from the road-contacting surface so as to border at least one of the grooves. The wall has a faceted radially outer edge blending radially inward to a linear base of the tread block. The base of the tread block transitions to a base surface of the corresponding groove to define an axially extending and concave transition surface therebetween.

Connecting the axially adjacent tread elements is at least one traction biting element. The biting element has three continuous portions. The first portion extends along the lateral side of the first tread element. The second portion extends through the separating groove. The third portion extends along the lateral side of the second tread element. Each biting element forms at least two distinct edges along the lateral sides of each tread element and two distinct edges in the separating grooves.
