  • Patent number: 8796946
Abstract: An LED driver for operating a light source, in particular an LED, includes an energy storage unit, a driver circuit supplied by the energy storage unit during emergency lighting operation, for operating the light source, and a control unit that activates the driver circuit in such a way that the light source is operated with a constant power or constant current irrespective of the state of charge of the energy storage unit, where the control unit, for the purpose of regulating the power, determines indirectly the level of the current supplied to the light source.

  • Patent number: 8716936
Abstract: An emergency lighting device (1) for operating a light source, in particular an LED, incorporates an energy storage unit (4), a charging circuit (3) to be supplied with mains supply voltage (Uin) for charging the energy storage unit (4) during a charging operation, wherein the charging circuit (3) has potential isolation, and a driver circuit (5) supplied by the energy storage unit (4) during operation of the emergency light, for operating the light source. A control unit (2) is further provided that is designed to monitor the state of the mains supply voltage (Uin) during the charging operation, and to activate emergency operation upon detecting an emergency state, wherein the control unit (2) determines the state of the mains supply voltage (Uin) from operating parameters of the emergency lighting device (1) measured on the output side of the charging circuit (3).

  • Patent number: 8680778
Abstract: An emergency-lighting device for operating a light-source, in particular an LED, comprises an energy storage unit, a charging circuit, to be supplied with a mains supply voltage (Uin), for charging the energy storage unit during charging operation, the charging circuit comprising a potential separation, and also a driver circuit, supplied by the energy storage unit during emergency-light operation, for operating the light-source. Furthermore a control unit is provided which is designed for monitoring the state of the mains supply voltage (Uin) during charging operation and, when an emergency condition is detected, for activating emergency-light operation, the control unit ascertaining the state of the mains supply voltage (Uin) on the basis of operating variables of the emergency-lighting device which are measured on the output side of the charging circuit.
