    Abstract: A seal, in certain embodiments, includes a seal body having a groove on a face of the seal body. The face is configured to contact a surface of a separate component to form a seal. The groove interrupts continuity of the face between a first face portion and a second face portion. In addition, the groove enables material deformation laterally between the first face portion and the second face portion. Furthermore, the groove increases contact stress at corners between opposite walls of the groove and the respective first and second face portions.
