  • Patent number: 4895407
Abstract: A device for attaching a rope to a tree limb, from a remote location includes a handle having on one end a curved arm terminating in a U-shaped rope retainer element, and having on its other end a hook or finger member in association with a retainer lug. A rope having a guide loop is draped over the retainer, after which the device is rotated about a tree limb and disengaged from the rope, leaving the looped end of the rope hanging over the limb. The finger is then passed through the loop, permitting the rope to be pulled downwardly to a position in which the other end of the rope can be passed through the loop. The rope can then be pulled tightly around the limb.

  • Patent number: 4664398
Abstract: Disclosed is a wagon or cart specially designed for removing logs--particularly those of great weight and diameter--from the site at which the logs were cut, to a truck or other vehicle used for transporting the logs to a remote destination. The log wagon includes a box-like, rectangular receptacle, open at one end, to facilitate rolling of logs into and out of the wagon. At the open end, ground wheels are rotatably mounted upon bell cranks or equivalent angular links or levers, pivoted at one end to the receptacle or log cradle. The other ends are adapted to be separably connected to a handle. When the handle is rocked in one direction, it lowers the log cradle, locating a curved bottom pan thereof against the ground so that logs can be conveniently rolled into or out of the cradle. When rocked in the other direction, the handle causes the lever to travel over dead center, elevating the open end of the cradle.

  • Patent number: 4637442
Abstract: A machine for coring stumps includes an area for receiving a tree stump that has been removed from the ground. Positioned above this area is an X-shaped wedge concentric with a cylindrical saw, having an annular saw blade. The wedge is dropped into engagement with the stump to aid in holding it steady. The saw is then rotated at cutting speed while being driven downwardly through the stump to remove a core therefrom, leaving only salvageable dirt and loose roots, and debris capable of being easily disposed of. The cylindrical saw is then retracted and the wedge is now driven downwardly through the core to split the core into four logs of quadrantal cross section, providing logs of so-called "fireplace length".

  • Patent number: 4625438
Abstract: An excavating bucket, for example a bucket of the type used on a backhoe, has a leading or digging edge along which is provided a row of individually pneumatically driven digging teeth. Power for the teeth is supplied through impact hammers which reciprocate the teeth at high speed and with great force, whereby the teeth may be advanced into a work surface and break it up for loading into the bucket with maximum speed and ease. As high speed reciprocation of the several teeth continues, their associated impact hammers are progressively, relatively slowly advanced bodily toward the work surface, so as to effect a steady and substantially continuous penetration of the surface, including cementitious surfaces and other very hard surfaces often encountered during excavation, demolition, and other heavy operations in which a backhoe is typically used.
