Patent number: 8558618Abstract: An audio power amplifier includes a first and a second amplification unit, each including a switching voltage amplifier, an output filter, a current compensator, an inner current feedback loop feeding a measurement of current measured at the output inductor back to a summing input of the current compensator, a voltage compensator coupled to the summing input of the current compensator, and an outer voltage feedback loop. A controlled signal path provides the output of the voltage compensator of the first amplification unit to the current compensator of the second amplification unit. The first and second amplification units are operable with separate loads, in parallel driving a common load, or across a bridge-tied-load. A second pair of amplification units may be added and operated together with the first pair to drive a single speaker with a parallel pair of amplifiers on each side of a bridge-tied-load.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2011Date of Patent: October 15, 2013Assignee: Bose CorporationInventors: Michael Nussbaum, Timothy Sheen, Daniel S. Pearce

Patent number: 6771123Abstract: A multichannel electrical power amplifying system constructed and arranged to distribute electrical power of amount P to a total load coupled thereto. The system includes a plurality n of power amplifier channels, coupling the power amplifying system to a portion of the electrical load. Each of the amplifier channels distributes a portion of the electrical power P to a portion of the electrical load. Each power amplifier channel has a power distribution capacity, at least one of the power amplifier channels having a power distribution capacity significantly greater than P n . The sum of the capacities of the plurality of amplifier channels is significantly greater than P.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2002Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: Bose CorporationInventor: Daniel S. Pearce

Patent number: 4493069Abstract: A phonograph cover is coupled to a tone arm assembly such that movement of the cover to its open position automatically retracts the needle of the tone arm assembly from the record in any selected position of the tone arm assembly on the record playing portion of the record. Movement of the cover to its closed position automatically causes the needle to engage the record in any selected position of the tone arm assembly on the record playing portion of the record. The tone arm assembly is further coupled to the phonograph turntable drive means such that the drive means is actuated upon movement of the tone arm assembly onto the record playing portion of the record. The drive means is deactuated upon movement of the tone arm assembly to a rest position located outside of the playing portion of the record.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1983Date of Patent: January 8, 1985Assignee: The Quaker Oats CompanyInventors: Gene L. Insley, Duane M. Seaburg, Daniel S. Pearce
