  • Patent number: 4860775
Abstract: A heatable hair brush capable of being utilized for either curling or straightening hair as desired. The hair brush is also capable of being molded with integral bristles in a relatively simple two-part mold. The hair brush has a hairwinding portion provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced bristles arranged in a pair of diametrically opposed sets of parallel bristle rows, the central row of each set being radially extended and the rows on either side of the central row being parallel thereto.

  • Patent number: 4799124
Abstract: A shock hazard protector for protecting small appliances from the presence of water. The shock hazard protector utilizes a fusible wire link mechanically connecting two opposing resilient electrical contacts. A triac is connected to a sensor circuit and, upon the occurrence of water in predetermined parts of the appliance, the triac fires and causes a current to be passed through the fusible link to melt the link, release the resilient electrical contacts and open both power line simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 4797533
Abstract: A hair appliance has a hair winding portion extending axially from the end of a handle covered by a flexible sleeve member adapted to be depressed in order to activate a movable part of the hair appliance. The hair appliance is of relatively uniform cross-section along its length and in the case of a curling iron provided with a hair retaining clip biased adjacent the barrel of the curling iron, the clip is provided with a longitudinal extension aligned with the body of the clip, with the extension overlying a recess in the handle and under the flexible sleeve member. The clip is opened by squeezing or depressing the flexible sleeve member to move the extension into the recess. In the case of a curling brush having a rotatable barrel, a similar construction results in the barrel locking mechanism being situated under the flexible sleeve member so that depression of the latter operates the locking mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4680444
Abstract: A hairsetter designed to heat a plurality of hair rollers to a predetermined temperature is provided with a plurality of sockets each intended to receive a single hair roller having a pair of electrical plug members axially extending from one end of the roller. The plug members are tapered along substantially their entire length and are formed as extensions of parallel longitudinally extending heat sinks engaging the sides of a PTC resistance heating element within the hair roller. Each socket is provided with a pair of contact pins. The upper portion of each pin is accessible through the top of the socket and the lower portion thereof is in contact with an electric wire to conduct power to the pin. The contact pins are separated by diametrically opposed ribs which interact with the tapered plug members to cause the hair roller to be automatically rotated as it as inserted into the socket so as to cause the plug members to firmly engage the upper portion of the contact pins.

  • Patent number: 4602143
Abstract: A curling iron provided with an infrared radiation source within a hollow barrel for radiating infrared radiation within a predetermined band. The barrel is substantially transparent to radiation within the band emitted by the source. The curling iron is provided with a hair clip for retaining hair wound about the barrel, the clip also being substantially transparent to this infrared band. A fan is provided for blowing cooling air past the infrared source and through the barrel, the tip of the barrel being sufficiently perforated to pass this cooling air. The curling iron is further provided with a circuit for energizing the infrared source in a predetermined cyclical manner in order to maintain the temperature of the barrel within a predetermined range. A temperature sensor is further provided to sense the temperature of the barrel in order to activate the control circuit accordingly.
