  • Patent number: 5452395
Abstract: Generally stated, the present invention is directed to a liquid light guide for surgical instrumentation, which includes a flexible elongated tube having first and second end portions, first and second light transmissive members disposed at respective first and second end portions of the elongated tube to substantially seal an interior portion of the elongated tube and a light transmissive medium filing the interior portion of the elongated tube. The preferred light transmissive medium comprises a heavy mineral oil having a specific gravity greater than or equal to about 0.86. Preferred light transmissive members are drawn glass rods having polished ends and an index of refraction substantially equal to the transmissive medium. The liquid light guide of the present invention is capable of providing nearly 100% light transmission over the entire visible spectral range while substantially reducing undesired transmission of infrared and ultraviolet radiation.

  • Patent number: 4332536
Abstract: A dual cavity hydraulic tire press utilizes a single long stroke piston-cylinder assembly vertically positioned substantially in line with the center of gravity of the vertically movable upper mold sections, the latter being supported on the underside of the outer ends of a shallow V-shaped beam which is mounted for vertical movement on a readily removable column or post. In the closed position of the press the top mold cavities are locked to the base of the press by rotatable bayonet locks. Four short stroke hydraulic clamp piston-cylinder assemblies are positioned beneath each bottom mold section to achieve clamping pressure during cure and are provided with extended coolant passages between the clamp actuating fluid and the heat of the mold cavity to preclude degradation of the fluid employed.

  • Patent number: 4050973
Abstract: The single-stage building of 0.degree. belted pneumatic tires completely in flat band form on standard building drums, is disclosed. The feasibility of the process rests on the provision of the substantially inextensible metallic or non-metallic belt cords in the form of longitudinally extensible high "soft stretch" tapes. In a preferred version of the invention, the tape is composed of a plurality of cords each having formed therein a multiplicity of undulations which in any given straight length of the tape are substantially planar, the cords being disposed in side by side relation so that the planes of the undulations of each cord are generally parallel to the planes of the undulations of each adjacent cord, and the cords together with a relatively weak and frangible but only minimally undulated stabilizing yarn for the tape being secured to each other and held in their undulating state by a relative weak, chain stitch knitted, frangible stitching yarn or thread.
