  • Patent number: 9154280
Abstract: In a communications device a grouping unit uses channel state information when mapping data bits to a plurality of different constellation groups. Each constellation group is assigned to another modulation scheme. A plurality of sub-carriers is assigned to none or one of the constellation groups and each modulation uses another one of the constellation groups. The communications device includes at least one scalable interleaver unit, wherein each interleaver unit is assigned to one of the constellation groups and interleaves the assignment of data bits mapped to each constellation group and the sub-carriers that carry a symbol information derived from the data bits. As an example, the interleaver unit performs frequency interleaving by interleaving, at constellation level, the sub-carriers that carry the symbol information.

  • Patent number: 9048911
Abstract: The present invention relates to a refinement of the Alamouti encoding scheme. The Alamouti scheme provides transmitting in a first period, the symbols S1 and S2 and in the next period the symbols—S2* and S1*, wherein S1* is the complex conjugate of S1. The symbols carrying the same information are transmitted on different paths to a receiver. If a disturbance occurs during the first period, the receiver may recover the symbol from symbol S1* in the second time period and vice versa. If no disturbance occurs, the receiver may use both symbols to further improve the transmission quality. An interleaver is provided to increase the transmission distance between redundant symbols, thereby causing the spread delay to be set to a value larger than the maximum length of typical channel disturbance in the communication channel.

  • Patent number: 9020049
Abstract: In a MIMO communications system a first communications device applies beamforming to a complete transmission packet including both synchronization data and either payload data or training symbols. A second communications device evaluates the beamformed synchronization data and determines and transmits a feedback information indicating minimum required synchronization data and/or a minimum number of training symbols. The first communications device tailors the synchronization data and/or number of training symbols on the basis of the feedback information. Beamforming the complete transmission packet facilitates signal suppression at defined locations. When the channel properties change, the second communications device may provide further channel state information to adapt beamforming in the first communications device without transmission of not beamformed training symbols. The communications system may be a powerline telecommunications system.
