  • Patent number: 7140922
Abstract: An AC/DC adapter in which an AC to DC converter is incorporated in a multiple outlet wall adapter. The AC/DC adapter includes at least one standard AC plug receptacle and at least one DC receptacle. Electronic devices which require DC power can be plugged into to the AC/DC adapter by a power cord having a universal DC plug at one end and a connector or plug specific to the make and/or model of the electronic device at the other end. The universal DC plug corresponds with the DC receptacle provided on the AC/DC adapter. The adapter may be formed as one integrated unit or as a modular assembly which includes an AC module and a DC module. In the assembly, the AC and DC modules are constructed so that they can be fitted together and used as one conveniently sized unit, but modules can also be used independently of the other.

  • Patent number: 6991172
Abstract: A contactless transaction card includes first and second contactless integrated circuit (IC) chips and an antenna connected to both ICs for enabling contactless operation of the functions provided by each IC. The contactless transaction card is preferably fabricated by laminating together a plurality of layers to form a carrier substrate. The antenna and one of the IC chips is embedded within the layers of the carrier substrate so as to be permanently formed in the card, while the second IC chip is provided in the card in a region formed as a micro-sized card which is removable from the main portion of the carrier substrate. Additionally, an adapter card includes a holder for retaining a micro-sized contactless transaction card and contains an antenna arranged to connect with the micro-sized card. The adapter may be used to convert the micro-sized transaction card into a full-sized card and to enable access to the information associated with the IC chip contained in the card.

  • Patent number: 6978940
Abstract: A contactless transaction card is detachably connectable to an antenna provided on a flexible film having an adhesive coating or other carrier surface. An integrated circuit chip on the contactless transaction card includes leads for establishing an electrical connection with the ends of the antenna. The contactless transaction card and detachable antenna may be provided on a carrier card with the adhesive film adhered onto the card and the contactless transaction card either die cut into the carrier card or frictionally held in a recessed holder formed in the carrier card surface. In a preferred embodiment, a cover for a mobile telephone includes a holder for a contactless transaction card. An antenna may be either adhered onto the cover by the user or may be permanently provided on the surface of the cover.

  • Patent number: 6766952
Abstract: A carrier for at least one integrated circuit chip card or memory card, such as a plug-in sized SIM card, is preferably formed as a detachable cover fitted to or attached to the housing or battery pack of a portable electronic device. For example, the cover may be formed as a snap-on or slidably detachable cover over the back surface of a mobile telephone or the battery pack thereof. The cover includes at least one holder provided on the inwardly-facing surface of the detachable cover so that the extra chip cards are protected and hidden from view when the cover is attached to the portable electronic device. The holder(s) may be provided as a pocket, recess, hinged frame, or a contoured ridge or ridges formed on the interior surface of the cover. Alternatively, the carrier may also be formed as a carrier card having the holder(s) provided on a surface thereof.

  • Publication number: 20040142601
Abstract: A wall plate assembly includes at least one electrical functions incorporated directly into the assembly, while also serving as a wall plate or wall plate cover for an electrical wall outlet. The wall plate assembly also has an opening sized and shaped to fit around at least one receptacle of the wall outlet, a male plug so that the wall plate assembly can be plugged into one receptacle of the wall outlet to provide continuous power to the electrical function incorporated in the assembly, and at least one plug receptacle for allowing additional electrical devices to access electrical current at the same wall outlet. The opening and the male plug are aligned so that the plug prongs can be inserted into an upper outlet receptacle of a wall outlet while a lower outlet receptacle is exposed through and framed by the opening.
