  • Publication number: 20240375310
Abstract: A sawmill carriage includes a frame having a handle, translation structures connected to the frame towards lateral sides thereof, a sawmill head, and a pair of transportation wheels rotatably connected to the frame towards a longitudinal end thereof. The translation structures are mountable on rails of a log support structure that can support a log. The rails extend in a longitudinal direction and enable travel of the sawmill carriage in the longitudinal direction when the sawmill carriage is mounted thereon. The sawmill head has a saw blade, a portion of which is positionable to cut the log positioned on the log support structure when the sawmill carriage is mounted on the rails, and the sawmill carriage travels in the longitudinal direction. The handle is positioned to enable tilting and/or transportation of the sawmill carriage. A kit and method of using the sawmill carriage are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20240246253
Abstract: A log rest assembly for use in a portable sawmill has a log rest post mounted on a first end of a cylindrical mounting rod. The log rest post is fixed to a cylindrical log rest sleeve such that the log rest post remains perpendicular to said mounting rod. A stationary collar is affixed to the mounting rod. A compressible collar is mounted onto the mounting rod between said cylindrical log rest sleeve and said stationary collar. The compressible collar and the stationary collar provide pressure on the cylindrical log rest sleeve to constrain rotation of the log rest in relation to the mounting rod.

  • Publication number: 20230053108
Abstract: A braking system for a rotating member has a lever with an apex where a first arm meets a second arm. The apex is rotationally secured to a support. A band wraps around the circumference of an end of the rotating member. A first end of the band is secured to the support. A second end of the band is secured to the second arm. A resilient member is secured to the first arm and the support. An actuator is secured to the first arm. The resilient member biases the first arm, placing the band in frictional engagement with the circumference of the rotating member, and activation of the actuator directs the first arm, which relieves the frictional engagement of the band with the circumference of the rotating member. The actuator may be connected to a throttle or a brake control.
