    Abstract: A guide roll (22, 24) for a printing press (10) printing an image on a flat surface (16) of a web (12) of a lenticular lens material. The other side of the material has a series of lenticules (14) formed on it which extend parallel of each other longitudinally of the web and generally across the width of the web. The surface on which the lenticules are formed is drawn across the guide roll as the web of material is pulled through the press. The guide roll has a band (B) of circumferentially extending grooves (G) formed on an outer surface (26) of the roller. The grooves are formed so at least one lenticule fits in each groove. Thus, as the web is drawn through the press, and across the idler roller, the grooves prevent both lateral movement of the web with respect to the press, and distortion of the web. This helps maintain a printing alignment established between the printing press and the web of material prior to beginning a print run.

    Abstract: A card (10) for use as a telephone authorization card or the like is comprised of a layer of a backing material (20) such as a stiff plastic material which has some pliability. A thin sheet lenticular lens material (12) has a flat surface (14) on which is printed selected interlaced images. On the other side of the lens material is formed a plurality of lenticules (16) through which the images are viewed. The flat side of the lenticular material is secured to one face (22) of the backing in a convenient manner. A cutting tool is now used to form an opening (32) in the outer face of the lenticules and a programmed microchip (30) is inserted in the opening and secured in place. On the outer face of the backing material a magnetic strip (40) containing magnetically encoded indicia is secured. The card is usable in a reader (R) which can scan the magnetic strip and read information from the microchip to allow the user to place a telephone call or conduct other transactions.

    Abstract: A registration system (10) maintains registration of colors printed on a lenticular material (M) by a printing press (P) to form an image (I). A predetermined pattern (12) is printed on the material together with the image. A camera (36) obtains an image of each printed pattern as the lenticular material moves from one end of the press to the other, a strobe (40) and an image magnifier (34) also being used for this purpose. A monitor (32) displays the image for an observer to determine if the printed colors are properly registering with each other. A controller (46) for adjusting the position of print rollers (R) is operable by the observer to adjust the rollers, as necessary, for an observed printed color determined to be not properly registering with the other printed colors to be brought into registry therewith. A baseline pattern (14) is printed as are bars (28) for each printed color.

    Abstract: A process for printing an image (I.sub.C) on a lenticular lens material (12) with a printing press (10). A separate film negative (B, C, Y, M) is prepared for each color used in printing the image. One of the negatives (B) is selected and each of the other negatives, and the lens material, is registered with the selected negative. Each of negatives is adjusted to the selected negative so all of the negatives and the lens material are in registry with each other. Separate printing plates (18) are prepared from each of the negatives. The plates are mounted on the press at respective printing stations and the lens material is run through the press with each of the plates being used to print on the material. The plates are adjusted, as necessary, to align the plates and register the color dot patterns printed by each plate to the color printed by the plate made from the selected negative.
