  • Publication number: 20090200808
Abstract: A support for supporting a plurality of wind turbine generators on a pole may be raised or lowered. The support accommodates a solar voltaic array attached to the pole and allows the wind turbines to be raised and lowered past the attached solar voltaic array. Waste heat from the solar voltaic array is ducted to assist in driving the wind turbines. A cogeneration unit, including an engine-generator set, may be attached to the pole at the base and engine exhaust, heat exchanged to the air from the engine coolant, and convection-heated air from the engine-generator set may also be ducted to assist in driving the wind turbines. A reverse feed switch may be used to transfer excess electrical power to the commercial grid when the primary load does not require it. Loads may include a solar parking lot at night, a commercial building, or hospital.

  • Publication number: 20080217998
Abstract: A UPS with a multi-port DC bus operable to couple a plurality of intermittent external DC sources and intermittent external DC loads is disclosed. The invention includes renewable energy power systems with a UPS having a multi-port DC bus and a responsive energy storage means electrically coupled to the multi-port DC bus. An embodiment includes a renewable energy power system with a UPS having a multi-port DC bus having an external DC load coupling for supporting an external DC load. Exemplary DC sources disclosed include a pole-mountable wind turbine assisted by ducted hot air created by the waste heat from a solar-voltaic array that is also an exemplary DC source. A parking lot solar power system is also disclosed that is both a DC source and at least one DC load. A cogeneration system using the AC output of the UPS and the AC output of a genset is provided.

  • Publication number: 20080210810
Abstract: A process for conducting port operations with a cargo-lifting airship that enables inspection of cargo lifted from a cargo ship while the cargo-lifting airship is in route to a destination. If the cargo fails inspection, the cargo may be delivered to quarantine. If the cargo passes inspection, it may be delivered to its destination. The same embodiment may be used to load a container cargo ship with freshly inspected cargo containers and their cargo. Alternate embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7411308
Abstract: Rapidly responsive energy storage means enable the creation of a multi-port DC bus in a UPS, enabling the multi-port DC bus to couple a plurality of intermittent DC sources and intermittent DC loads. The invention includes renewable energy power systems with a UPS having a multi-port DC bus and a responsive energy storage means electrically coupled to the multi-port DC bus. An embodiment includes a renewable energy power system with a UPS having a multi-port DC bus having at least one coupling in addition to the minimum of three required for a UPS to operate. The additional coupling is adapted to couple either a DC load or a DC source to the multi-port DC bus. A responsive energy storage means is coupled to supply power to the multi-port DC bus and is operable to maintain a substantially constant power level on the multi-port DC bus.

  • Patent number: 5504991
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus that connects and secures a battery pack to a battery powered vehicle and/or a battery charging device. The apparatus eliminates the use of the installer's hands on or near the battery cables or any other current carrying devices. The apparatus is comprised of a frame located around a perimeter portion of the battery pack, a first connector slidably coupled to the frame, a second connector coupled to the first connector and to a battery powered vehicle and/or a battery charging device, and a handle pivotally coupled to the frame and to the first connector for coupling the first connector to the second connector.

  • Patent number: 5452983
Abstract: An apparatus stores battery packs for battery powered vehicles, and provides a fast and easy way to change a discharged battery pack for a fresh battery pack. The vehicle is backed up to the platform of the apparatus, and a bridge piece spans the gap between the platform and the vehicle. The operator then uses a pneumatic forklift to lift the battery pack in the vehicle on a cushion of air. This allows the operator to easily move the battery pack from the vehicle, across the bridge piece, and across the platform of the apparatus to a storage location. The operator can then use the pneumatic forklift to move a fresh battery pack from a different storage location to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4992669
Abstract: A modular energy system including separable driving and driven units and a transfer system for rapidly and easily replacing these units as needed. The driving unit includes a power plant and associated controls protectively housed in a sturdy module container. The driven unit includes shaft drivable equipment and associated controls protectively housed in another sturdy module container. A disconnectable drive shaft extendable between the containers drivingly connects the output of the power plant with the equipment. Swivelable wheel assemblies are easily positionable underneath the module containers so that they can be moved longitudinally and laterally by a winch of the transfer system on and between a flatbed truck and a nearby transfer dock.
