Publication number: 20100091909Abstract: A wireless communications device (200) is provided. The device includes a demodulator (210) configured for computing estimated bits for a modulated input signal 220 representing a the symbols associated with a frame, the estimated bits including estimated values for a frame of bits and at least one forward error correction (FEC) error bit encoded into the symbols. The device further includes an FEC decision decoder (212) configured for receiving at least a first portion of the estimated bits and calculating values for a first portion of the frame bits associated with the first portion of said the estimated bits, where the estimated bits are computed based on a condition of a communication channel associated with the modulated input signal and a frequency deviation associated with said demodulator.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2009Publication date: April 15, 2010Applicant: Harris CorporationInventors: Daniel Wayne Ericson, Jun Ni, Liang Ban

Patent number: 6647244Abstract: A wireless communications system has a plurality of base stations 1, a plurality of mobile vehicular repeater units 2, and a plurality of portable units 3. In a public safety network context, each mobile vehicular repeater unit 2 is associated with a portable unit 3, and both are associated with a single user. The object is for the user to be able to access the wireless network for any geographic location. In cases where a geographic area is shadowed from a base station 1 and communication directly between the portable unit 3 and the base station 1 is not possible, it is beneficial to use the mobile vehicular repeater unit 2 as a vehicular repeater to relay communications between the portable unit 3 and the base station 1. When the mobile vehicular repeater unit 2 is operating as a repeater and communicating with the portable units, the frequency plan for transmission and reception is reversed.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1999Date of Patent: November 11, 2003Assignee: The Whitaker CorporationInventors: William Dean Haymond, Daniel Wayne Ericson
