    Abstract: A method and apparatus for nondestructive testing a railroad rail is provided. The method includes locating at least one magnetic exciter adjacent to the rail, the at least one magnetic exciter includes an emitting end and a longitudinal axis extending perpendicularly through the emitting end, discharging the energy storage circuit through the at least one magnetic exciter such that only a magnetic pulse enters the rail at a location of the exciter, and controlling a shape of the magnetic pulse. The apparatus includes at least one magnetic exciter adjacent to a rail, a energy storage circuit electrically coupled to the at least one magnetic exciter the energy storage circuit is configured to supply a shaped current pulse to the at least one exciter, and a power source electrically coupled to the energy storage circuit.

    Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for implementing communications privacy on a class of two-way wireless control communications. The methods and apparatuses of the present invention are cryptographic in nature and are built on a symmetric cryptographic algorithm structure. The cryptographic algorithm structure generates keytext on a frame-by-frame basis and both directions of the communications control link are served by the same keytext frames. The methods and apparatuses of the present invention utilize a single outbound/inbound cryptographic generator, such as a shrinking generator or the like designed using six-sigma tools in order to ensure, within a predetermined probability, that the non-fixed encryption time does not cause operational problems.

    Abstract: An improved Luer-lock fitting for hypodermic needles and methods for using the fitting to inject suspended solids into a body. The improved fitting includes a lumen having a curvedly tapered, distally decreasing throat region, which is believed to provide improved flow of suspended solids into the hypodermic needles. One fitting includes at least two threads to provide a more secure fitting able to withstand higher injection pressures. Another fitting includes rounded wings better able to withstand jarring by endoscope eyepieces and resisting being dislodged from position. One method includes injecting suspended solids into soft tissue such as sphincter mechanisms. One method includes injecting suspended solids into tissue surrounding a mechanism to correct defects.

    Abstract: An improved dual gridded reflector antenna configuration which allows cross-polarization radiation to be scanned in any given direction. The dual-gridded reflector assembly includes a front parabolic reflector illuminated by a first source, and a second parabolic reflector illuminated by a second source. The second reflector is positioned adjacent to and behind the front reflector such that the center points of the reflectors align to define a center axis. Additionally, the first and second sources are positioned at different offsets with respect to the reflectors and have a respective rotated offset angle with respect to the center axis such that the sources define an antenna feed separation. By modifying the offsets and the rotated offset angles, the feed separation can be designed to have an inclination with respect to the north-south or east-west feed separation direction.

    Abstract: A programmable logic controller computer system is provided which achieves great flexibility in communication among the components of the system. The computer system includes a host programmable logic controller coupled by a field bus to a programmable bus interface unit. The programmable bus interface unit is located at a field station which includes a main bus to which a micro field processor and a plurality of I/O modules are coupled. The micro field processor is capable of locally processing I/O data from the I/O modules without involving the host PLC. A hand-held programmer is coupled to the programmable bus interface unit to permit the user to program an I/O map into the bus interface unit. The I/O map specifies mapping among the I/O modules, the micro field processor and the host programmable logic controllers. In this manner, communication among the I/O modules, the micro field processor and the host programmable logic controller is flexibly specified and controlled.

A preferred six sheet embodiment employs three carbon loaded sheets (26, 32, 34) separated by two dielectric sheets (28, 30). A third dielectric sheet (36) insulates the carbon loaded sheets from the spacecraft body. The outermost carbon loaded sheet (32) has a high resistivity and is primarily transmissive while the other two carbon loaded sheets (26, 34) have a low resistivity and are primarily reflective.
