  • Publication number: 20050231846
Abstract: Disclosed are a system, an apparatus, a method and an article of manufacture to provide for writing WORM (write once read many) data to a data storage device. A WORM pointer memory is used for maintaining an inventory of LBAs (logical block addresses) where WORM data may be written on the data storage media of the data storage device. The WORM pointer memory is a tamper proof memory device to maintain data integrity with respect to WORM data.

  • Publication number: 20050188246
Abstract: Disclosed are a system, a method, and article of manufacture to provide for managing removable storage media that is identified by a persistent worldwide name. SAN storage management is enhanced by preserving the persistent worldwide names assigned to removable storage media when it is necessary to replace the removable storage media. Exemplary embodiments include determining that a first removable storage media identified by a persistent worldwide name needs to be replaced, creating a copy of the data from the first removable storage media and assigning the persistent worldwide name to the second removable storage media.

  • Publication number: 20050112910
Abstract: A method for preforming of two or more flexible cables in an arrangement consisting of a combination of rigid printed circuit boards and flexible cable sections extending therebetween. Moreover, also provided is an apparatus for the preforming of two or more flexible cable sections of a combination of rigid printed circuit boards and therewith interposed flexible cable sections which are adapted to interconnect the rigid printed circuit boards. The apparatus consists of a tool constituted of an elongated cylindrical member having a tapered leading end which narrows into an ultra-thin flat end section of a blade-like configuration, and which is adapted to be pushed between the flexible cables and so as to preform the flexible cable sections and cause them to yield in a predetermined outwardly bowed permanently relationship between the rigid printed circuit boards at the opposite ends thereof to lengthen the fatigue life of the conductors in the flexible cable sections.

  • Publication number: 20050007685
Abstract: A modified disk drive that includes means for selectively and permanently disabling the write mode of the hard disk drive by the use of programmable read only memory (PROM) circuitry is provided. One method of use employs selectively blowing a PROM fuse in the arm electronics of the hard disk drive to prevent further writing to a respective disk surface in the hard disk drive. A second method of use employs selectively blowing a PROM fuse in processor-accessible memory, to prevent further writing to a section of logical block addresses (LBAs) corresponding to a respective set of data sectors in the hard disk drive.

  • Publication number: 20050010716
Abstract: A method to write information to a designated information storage medium using an allocated data storage device using a specified information recording format, whereby a previously-determined media bit for the designated information storage medium is examined, and a previously-determined device bit for the allocated data storage device is examined, and the write capability of the designated information storage medium using the specified information recording format is determined and displayed. Management classes embedded in the file name may augment the media bit and device bit for determining the write capability.
