Publication number: 20250119717Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a method of associating objects using proximity sensing is described. Each of the objects to be associated is adapted to emit signals using a short-range communications technology. Each of the objects continually emits a signal comprising an identifier of that object. A plurality of detecting devices detect signals emitted from the objects. Distances between the emitting object and the detecting device are determined for each of the detected signals. Clusters of the objects are determined from the determined distances. An attempt is then made to associate each cluster with an event. For each cluster associated with the event, the duration and composition of the cluster are determined. Devices suitable for acting as detecting devices and objects are described, as is a computer system for carrying out the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 18, 2021Publication date: April 10, 2025Inventors: Padhraig Ryan, Daniel Zucchetto

Publication number: 20240169817Abstract: A method to be carried out at an electronic device for detecting proximity to another electronic device is described. The electronic devices are capable of interaction through both low-accuracy sensing and high accuracy sensing. Low-accuracy sensing is used until a potential proximity event is detected. High-accuracy sensing is then activated, and attempts are made using high-accuracy sensing to detect a further potential proximity event corresponding to the potential proximity event. A determination is then made as to whether a proximity event has taken place—this is done using the further potential proximity event if detected, and using the potential proximity event otherwise. A suitable electronic device is also described, as is a method of training electronic devices to detect proximity to other electronic devices using a proximity estimation algorithm.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2021Publication date: May 23, 2024Inventors: Padhraig RYAN, Daniel ZUCCHETTO, Keith NOLAN, Neil BROCKETT, Julia O'CONNELL
