    Abstract: A mat unit is formed from at least two layers ultrasonically welded together. Each layer is individually formed from non-vinyl nontoxic thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material. In ultrasonically joining the two layers together, there is no need to use additional materials, such as adhesive (i.e., chemical attachment) or stitched thread (i.e., mechanical attachment) to form the joint/weld point. Once formed from the two layers, the mat unit has four quadrants and a plurality of longitudinal ribs integrally formed in the first layer positioned in the first and third quadrants, and a plurality of transverse ribs integrally formed in the first layer positioned in the second and fourth quadrants. Additionally, there are a plurality of longitudinal ribs integrally formed in the second layer positioned in the second and fourth quadrants, and a plurality of transverse ribs integrally formed in the second layer positioned in the first and third quadrants.

The divider includes first and second members that snap-fittingly engage each other. A protrusion with a curved terminal end extends from the first member is received in a recess in the second member. The protrusion enables the first member to pivot relative to the second member. A second protrusion extends outwardly from the first member and into a second recess in the second member. A pair of arms extends outwardly in opposite directions from a central base region on the first member and beyond the sides of the second member. In one embodiment, the arms are of the same length and are disposed generally at right angles to the protrusions. In another embodiment a leg extends downwardly from a longer one of the arms to provide extra support to that arm.

When activated, the light source shines through the first portion and thereby illuminates and draws attention to the decorative image. The light source is coated in a polycarbonate resin film to protect and strengthen the same against damage as people walk over the mat. A non-transparent coating may be applied to selective regions of the protective film to create the same decorative transparent image therein and to thereby allow light to only be emitted from a particular region of the light source. The mat may be made from a flow-through material, a non-flow-through material with a gripping upper surface and wells; or a combination of flow-through and non-flow-through material.
