  • Patent number: 8055265
Abstract: The radiation diagram of an antenna for serving a cell in a cellular communication network is selected from a plurality of available radiation diagrams by: classifying the plurality of available radiation diagrams in terms of a related radiation gain value; identifying for each one of the sectors a plurality of variations of the radiation gain value associated with the available radiation diagrams; estimating for each sector an initial value of at least one indicator of network operative functionality; estimating for each sector at least a desiderate value of variation of the related radiation gain value; and selecting at least one configuration that approximates the variation of the radiation gain value involving the desiderate value.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 2005
Date of Patent: November 8, 2011
    Assignee: Telecom Italia S.p.A.
Inventors: Giorgio Calochira, Francesco Epifani, Michele Ludovico, Giuseppe Minerva, Daniela Mirra, Massimiliano Panico, Massimiliano Petra, Emanuele Silio, Loris Stola
  • Patent number: 7840219
Abstract: A method for selecting a subset of sites within a set of candidate sites for activating one or more radio stations of a telecommunications network includes building an initial solution of a subset of sites starting from a network configuration having the whole set of active candidate sites; and optimizing the initial solution for activating “inactive” sites and/or deactivating “active” sites, in order to minimize a predetermined cost function for the solution. The steps of building and optimizing the initial solution are adapted to define both solutions that have a geographic coverage area that is greater than a predefined minimum coverage area and to manage an amount of traffic that is greater than a predefined minimum expected traffic value. A processing system and a processing program or group of programs can be executed by the system when pre-arranged for performing the above method.
