    Abstract: A defrost control device has camming means for rotational movement and gear train means operable generally in a pair of preselected speed modes for effecting the rotational movement of the camming means. Means actuated by the camming means during a part of the rotational movement thereof toward a displaced position is adapted for translating the gear train means from one of the preselected speed modes to the other of the preselected speed modes thereof. Means is selectively operable upon the occurrence of a preselected condition for releasably maintaining the translating means in the displaced position thereof to effect the operation of the gear train means in its other preselected speed mode.A method of operating a defrost control device is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A thermostat adapted for operation in a heating mode and a cooling mode so as to regulate the temperature of a space in which the thermostat may be located. The thermostat has means adjustably movable therein toward selected positions respectively indicative of a selected temperature of the space and operable in the selected positions for sensing the temperature of the space. A pair of means are disposed in heat transfer relation with the sensing means and energized during the heating mode operation and the cooling mode operation of the thermostat for supplying anticipation heat to the sensing means, respectively. Means is disposed in heat transfer relation with the sensing means and energized during the heating mode operation of the thermostat for transferring biasing heat to the sensing means so as to supplement the anticipation heat supplied to the sensing means by one of the supplying means upon the energization thereof during the heating mode operation of the thermostat.

    Abstract: A circuit for controlling the speed of an alternating current motor. The circuit has a gate controlled full wave alternating current switch coupled in series relation with the motor, and a phase control circuit coupled in parallel relation with the switch is operable generally for providing signals indicative of the occurrence of a preselected condition. Means is provided for transmitting the indicative signals to the gate of the switch to control the duration of the conduction thereof in either direction and thereby vary the energy delivered to the motor so as to control its speed in accordance with the occurrence of the preselected condition.A method of controlling the speed of an alternating current motor is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A control circuit for varying the speed of a dynamoelectric machine having a plurality of windings selectively energizable in different configurations for operation of the dynamoelectric machine at different speeds from an alternating current source. The control circuit has a phase control circuit for providing signals having a controllable phase relation to the alternating current source. A gate controlled full wave alternating current switch is connected in parallel with one of the windings, and the parallel combination of the one winding and the switch is connected in series with at least another of the windings whereby the switch conducts generally the full alternating current source voltage applied to the other winding. Means couples the phase control circuit to the gate of the switch to control the start of the conduction of the switch.A control circuit in a refrigeration system and a method of controlling speed of a dynamoelectric machine are also disclosed.
