    Abstract: Fouling of an electrostatic ink jet head is sensed and causes shutoff of the head and of the associated electronics. The fouling is sensed by detecting contamination of the charge electrodes or of the deflection plates by conductive ink, the detection being by sensitive circuitry employing diodes.
