  • Patent number: 5605589
Abstract: An asymmetric reinforcement belt structure for a pneumatic tire includes an outer belt and inner belt, each reinforced with a plurality of generally parallel cords. The outer belt has a first portion between the centerlines of the cords and a first surface and a second portion between the centerlines of the cords and a second surface. The first portion has a thickness T1 which is between 110% and 150% of T2. Similarly, the inner belt has a third portion and a fourth portion, with the third portion being between the centerlines of the cords and a third surface and a the fourth portion being between the centerlines of the cords and a fourth surface. The fourth portion has a thickness T4 which is between 50% and 90% of a thickness of the third portion T3. Orienting the cords within the belts in this way separates them slightly more than would be so if the belts were symmetrical.

  • Patent number: 5010938
Abstract: A tire bead ring comprising round wires laid down in a parallelogram shape having an acute angle of 75.degree.-90.degree. is provided. The bead ring of the invention, when employed in a tire at a lay angle of 5.degree.-15.degree., provides a means for spreading out or dissipating twisting forces or torques encountered by the bead area of the tire to prevent separation of the bead from the rim during inflation and loss of air because of the flexing of the tire during running. Also, when the bead comprises multiple turns of a single round wire, a bead having reduced weight and good strength and uniformity may be provided.

  • Patent number: 4964452
Abstract: A pneumatic tire has a carcass ply (12) of cables of a high tensile material have stiffening members (21,22) of a textile material disposed on each side and adjacent to the turn-up portions (27) of the carcass ply. The textile cords in one stiffening member are oriented in an opposite manner from the cords of the other stiffening member with respect to a circumferential line of the tire.
