Publication number: 20100263542Abstract: A filter assembly is used in a return air grille of an HVAC system to filter dust, particles and contaminants from air. The filter assembly includes a filter cartridge having a frame that surrounds an air filter. The frame includes a planar surface that defines a plane. The filter cartridge and the frame flange are separate components. A frame flange is attached only to the planar surface of the frame.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2008Publication date: October 21, 2010Inventors: Dwight H. Heberer, Kevin H. Waldo, Edward C. Sofsky, Danny L. Jenkins, Richard Joseph Scott, III

Patent number: 7252696Abstract: A fan coil media cabinet for use with a fan coil unit. The cabinet includes an open-sided inner liner having co-joined top, bottom, back, and front panels. The inner panel is mounted within an outer shell having top, bottom, and back walls that are located adjacent to the top, bottom, and back walls of the outer shell. The outer shell contains a ledge that extends about the inner periphery of the shelf upon which the inner liner is seated. The width of the outer shell walls is greater than that of the inner liner panels so that the walls extend outwardly to one side beyond the inner liner. In assembly, the extended wall sections of the outer shell are mounted in contiguous relation with the return inlet of the fan coil and are fastened thereto to create a rigid structure.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2004Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Danny L. Jenkins, Kevin H. Waldo, Robert G. Fisher, Dwight H. Heberer

Publication number: 20070173110Abstract: A method of connecting an air cleaner cabinet to a heat exchanger. The method includes inserting a first ear portion on the air cleaner into a receiving portion in a first adapter flange bracket so that the first ear portion is removably engaged in the receiving portion of the first adapter flange bracket, positioning a first side of the first adapter flange bracket in engagement with a second side of the heat exchanger, and inserting a first set of fasteners through a first set of plurality of holes in the first side of the first adapter flange bracket so that the first side of the first adapter flange bracket is removably connected to the second side.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventors: Dwight H. Heberer, Danny L. Jenkins, Stafford Wayne Stines, Chad E. Richardson

Patent number: 6814773Abstract: An expandable media filter structure is composed largely of biodegradable materials and is environmentally disposable. A plurality of pleated panels are interconnected at their edges so as to be collapsible for storage and shipping purposes but expandable for installation and use. A plurality of ribbons are ultrasonically welded to each of the panels edges, with the ribbon portions between edges being of substantially equal lengths, thereby maintaining equal spacing between the panel edges when the filter is in the expanded condition but allowing an each collapsing of the filter for storage. Forming a part of the nondisposable framework for support of the disposable filter are a pair of end plates which are C-shaped in cross section for slidably receiving an end panel of the media filter therein. The depth of the C-shaped channel is sufficient to allow a plurality of the unexpended pleats to be stored therein so that a single sized filter may be used for various sizes of cabinet openings.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2001Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Rajendra K. Shah, Dwight H. Heberer, Danny L. Jenkins

Patent number: 6652613Abstract: An expandable media filter structure is composed largely of biodegradable materials and is environmentally disposable. A plurality of pleated panels are interconnected at their edges so as to be collapsible for storage and shipping purposes but expandable for installation and use. A plurality of ribbons are ultrasonically welded to each of the panel edges, with the ribbon portions between edges being of substantially equal lengths, thereby maintaining equal spacing between the panel edges when the filter is in the expanded condition but allowing an easy collapsing of the filter for storage. Forming a part of the disposable filter are pair of end plates, with each being adhesively attached to an end panel and having a pair of slots formed near their ends for attachment to a nondisposable support structure. The end panels are formed of multiple layers of paperboard which are adhesively bonded and compressed into a U-shaped structure that rigidly supports the filter in its expanded condition.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2001Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Rajendra K. Shah, Dwight H. Heberer, Danny L. Jenkins
