  • Patent number: 9807599
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software that enable a mobile control device to manage wireless communication devices. The mobile control device receives a user-type instruction indicating a user-type and a map instruction indicating a geographic area. In response to receiving these instructions, the mobile control device displays on a touch display a geographic map indicating the wireless communication devices of the selected user-type that are located within the selected geographic area. The user touches the display through the geographic map to select some wireless communication devices of the selected user-type within the selected geographic area. The mobile control device receives an activation instruction for the selected ones of the wireless communication devices and in response, wirelessly transferring an activation message indicating the activation instruction for the selected ones of the wireless communication devices for delivery to and execution by a wireless network control system.

  • Patent number: 9363271
Abstract: A radio access network (RAN) may be providing, in a coverage area, at least two access channels that are available for use by any wireless communication devices (WCD). Thereafter, the RAN may detect that a threshold load exists in the coverage area and responsively reserve one of the access channels for use only by authorized WCDs. In turn, authorized WCDs in the coverage area may be configured to use the reserved access channel to transmit access probes to the RAN, while unauthorized WCDs in the coverage area may be configured to use only a generally-available access channel to transmit access probes to the RAN. In this way, the disclosed methods and corresponding devices may limit the occupancy on the reserved access channel and thereby increase the likelihood that authorized WCDs can successfully access the RAN over the reserved access channel when the coverage area becomes congested.

  • Patent number: 8989791
Abstract: In systems and methods of talk group communication, a group PTT call is established between a originating wireless device and recipient wireless devices. A group identifier of the PTT call group is provided to the recipient wireless devices indicating that the PTT call involves a call group without indicating an identifier of originating wireless device. In an embodiment, when the group PTT call is terminated, a response call request is received based on the group PTT call from one of the plurality of recipients and a bilateral PTT call is established between the one of the plurality of recipients and the originating wireless device. In an embodiment, a response is received based on the group PTT call from one of the plurality of recipients, the group PTT call is terminated, and a bilateral PTT call is established between the one of the plurality of recipients and the originating wireless device.

  • Patent number: 8773976
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for helping to reduce latency that may arise from requesting retransmission of non-received packets. A device carrying out the method may be arranged to not send negative acknowledgements for non-received packets. Further, in an implementation where the device is to send for each packet of an incoming sequence either a positive acknowledgement indicating that the device received the packet or a negative acknowledgement indicating that the device did not receive the packet (and constituting a request for retransmission of the packet), the device will send for each packet a positive acknowledgement regardless of whether the device received the packet. The device will thus send a positive acknowledgement for at least one packet even though the device did not receive the packet.

  • Patent number: 8712411
Abstract: In systems and methods of varying a latency timer in a wireless communication system, a network identifier associated with an access node in communication with a wireless device is received at a communication node during the establishment of a communication session between a wireless device and the communication node. At least one latency timer criteria is determined based on the network identifier, and at least one latency timer is adjusted according to the latency timer criteria.

  • Patent number: 8391830
Abstract: A mobile phone is configured to detect emergency events and control services enabled on the mobile phone in response to the emergency events. The mobile phone may be configured to detect events such as the mobile phone being turned off or a battery being removed. When the mobile phone detects an event, the mobile phone enables one or more emergency services on the mobile phone to collect and transmit data that may be used by emergency personnel. Other services may be disabled on the mobile phone to conserve battery power.
