Abstract: With reference to the accompanying FIGURE, the present invention provides a land vehicle comprising: an electric or hydraulic motor for driving at least one driven wheel; a battery supplying electrical power or a source of hydraulic power; an electronic controller which controls operation of the electric or hydraulic motor; and a driver operated throttle control. The electronic controller receives a plurality of input signals including an input signal indicative of operation of the driver operated throttle control and implements a plurality of different operating regimes corresponding to a plurality of different simulated gear ratios. The controller selects an operating regime based on the plurality of input signals received thereby. The controller can operate the electric motor as a generator or the hydraulic motor as a pump to implement regenerative braking of the vehicle. Each operating regime has a level of regenerative braking unique thereto.
