  • Publication number: 20120062700
Abstract: An apparatus generating audio cues for content indicative of the position of audio objects within the content comprising: an audio processor receiving raw audio tracks for said content and information indicative of the positions of at least some of said audio tracks within frames of said content, said audio processor generating corresponding audio parameters; an authoring tool receiving said audio parameters and generating encoding coefficients, said audio parameters including audio cue of the position of audio objects corresponding to said tracks in at least one spatial dimension; and a first audio/video encoder receiving an input and encoding said input into an audio visual content having visual objects and audio objects, said audio objects being disposed at location corresponding to said one spatial position, said encoder using said encoding coefficients for said encoding.

  • Publication number: 20120002716
Abstract: An initial content is encoded a first time to obtain a first encoded content. One or more parameters obtained from the first encoding are used to generate an encoding coefficient. The initial content is encoded a second time to obtain a second encoded content. The second encoding is performed using encoding coefficients, at least one of which is derived from the parameter associated with the first encoding. The two encodings can be implemented using a single encoder or two separate encoders.

  • Publication number: 20120002946
Abstract: The present invention pertains to an apparatus and method for adding a graphic element, such as a subtitle to selected locations of the frames in a 3D movie. The authoring tool receives a depth map indicating the position of various objects in the frames of 3D content along a Z-axis. The authoring device then designates a position for at least one additional graphic element in at least some of the frames, these positions being determined in relation either to the positions of the objects or the position of the screen along said Z-axis. An encoder uses parameters from the authoring tool to reauthor the 3D movie by adding the graphic content to the positions designated by the parameters.

  • Publication number: 20110283368
Abstract: A method for operating a media player includes extracting a set of identifiers from a digital medium holding an encoded video content, using a media player. The method further includes transmitting the set of identifiers to an identification service to obtain status information indicating a title for the video content, an authorization status of the digital medium, and an end-use designation for the digital medium selected from rental or sell-through. The method further includes controlling at least one function of the media player used to provide video output from the media player, in response to the status information. Extracting the set of identifiers may include extracting five identifiers comprising a volume name, a book type, and a time stamp for the digital medium, a file directory hash, and a watermark description. The method may be embodied in a media player or encoded instructions for a media player.

  • Patent number: 7805011
Abstract: A method and a related apparatus for compressing images included in media content and editing the media content. The method can include providing an image-matching algorithm and a memory device, using the image-matching algorithm to identify images that are similar in a selection of media content extracting the images that are similar from the selection of media content, storing a single image that represents the extracted images in the memory device, and replacing the extracted images in the selection of media content with a metadata link that points to the single image. The method can further include providing a previously edited video program that originally was created from film footage, determining which of the video fields from the program include a unique film frame from the footage, and extracting the video fields from the program that include a unique film frame.

  • Publication number: 20090185684
Abstract: A motion picture distribution system, the system including a central computer, an exhibitor computer, a communication channel, and a back channel. The central computer is located at a central site and configured to distribute a digital version of the motion picture. The exhibitor computer is located at an exhibitor location that is remote from the central site. The exhibitor computer is configured both to receive the digital version of the motion picture from the central computer, and to display the motion picture. The communication channel is configured to facilitate the electronic transfer of the digital version of the motion picture from the central computer to the exhibitor computer. The back channel is coupled between the central computer and the exhibitor computer, and configured to allow for the transfer of information between the exhibitor computer and the central computer.

  • Patent number: 7206409
Abstract: Method and apparatus for uniquely identifying a copy of a motion picture disposed on a media. The method includes the steps of selecting two or more motion picture scenes. Each of the motion picture scenes is an identifiable portion of the motion picture distinct from every other portion of the motion picture. Once the scenes have been identified, two or more sequences can be defined within each of the motion picture scenes such that each sequence includes two or more frames. For example, the motion picture can have three scenes, each divided into twenty eight sequences, with each of the sequences containing 12 frames. Once the scenes and sequences have been selected, at least one of the sequences from each scene is marked to define a uniquely identifiable marking pattern on the media.
