Patent number: 10567529Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed herein for unified tracking data management. An example method is performed at a device with a display and one or more input devices, the method including: displaying a user interface with two or more sets of tracking-data configuration options associated with a plurality of websites, the sets including: a first tracking-data configuration option that, when selected, causes the device to block all of the plurality of websites from storing tracking data; and a second tracking-data configuration option that, when selected, causes the computing device to limit receipt by all of the plurality of websites of information associated with device. While displaying the user interface, the method includes: receiving a selection of the first tracking-data configuration option; and, in response, causing the computing device to block all of the plurality of websites from storing tracking data of at least the first type on the computing device.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2018Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Steven Jon Falkenburg, Darin Benjamin Adler, Jessie Leah Berlin, Jing Jin, Kevin W. Decker, Maciej Stachowiak

Patent number: 10165072Abstract: Methods and apparatuses that collect tracking data items into a plurality of data stores for one or more domain in response to resources received from the domains are described. Each tracking data item may be accessible for one of the domains. Relationships of the domains may be identified among the tracking data items across multiple data stores according to the resources received. One or more of the domains may be selected according to the identified relationships to control accessibility of the tracking data items for the domains. The data stores may be updated to prohibit accessing at least a portion of the tracking data items for the selected domains.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2016Date of Patent: December 25, 2018Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Steven Jon Falkenburg, Darin Benjamin Adler, Jessie Leah Berlin, Jing Jin, Kevin W. Patent number: 8612844Abstract: Correct detection of embedded content type enables an operating system to launch the correct program to handle the embedded content. A page retrieval module retrieves an HTML page from a server, the contents of which are parsed by a parsing module. An embedded content analyzer gathers information from the parsed page about content embedded within the web page and proceeds to determine the type of content that is embedded. Content type is determined by analyzing various parameters such as a type specified by the web page, content type provided by an HTTP response, known file extensions present in a URL associated with the content or with the name of the file itself, and by sniffing the file. In one embodiment, the results of each analysis are weighted and a determination is made based upon the weighted total of results.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2005Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Donald Dale Melton, Darin Benjamin Adler, Christopher Blumenberg

Publication number: 20020076109Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing an interpreter that is operable to recognize whether text displayed on a display device belongs to a pre-defined type of text, and to present the user with an option for performing a context sensitive operation when an interpreter recognizes the input text as belonging to the pre-defined type of text. The input text is generated based on a user selecting text, a portion of text, an object, or a portion of an object displayed on a display device that is part of a computer system. Alternatively, an interpreter automatically recognizes when displayed text belongs to a pre-defined type of text. A wide variety of interpreters may be included, wherein each interpreter has at least one corresponding pre-defined type of text and at least one corresponding context sensitive operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 1999Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventors: ANDY HERTZFELD, DARIN BENJAMIN ADLER
