    Abstract: A mower implement includes a cutter bar extending along a central bar axis. A rotating blade assembly is mounted on the cutter bar. The rotating blade assembly includes a disc rotatable about a disc rotation axis relative to the cutter bar, and at least one blade pivotably mounted to the disc. A blade sensor is mounted on the cutter bar. The blade sensor has a sensing field, and is positioned to detect movement of the at least one blade of the rotating blade assembly through the sensing field during each rotation of the disc about the disc rotation axis. A diagnostic controller receives the data signal from the blade sensor and is configured to analysis the blade signal and identify a fault in the rotating blade assembly. The diagnostic controller may then notify an operator of the identified fault.

    Abstract: An agricultural machine capable of sensing a harvested crop load includes a mower or mower conditioner implement, which may be referred to as a crop cutting implement, and a retractable linear device such as a spring or linear actuator. The crop cutting implement includes a flexible drive assembly with an endless loop, such as a belt, that is driven and supported by rollers. The retractable linear device resists movement of a first roller relative to a second roller. With this arrangement various characteristics of the agricultural machine, all of which are proxies for the position of the first roller relative to the second roller, may be measured by a crop load sensor to determine the quantity or load of harvested crop being processed by the flexible drive assembly of the agricultural machine.

    Abstract: A torque smoothing apparatus is utilized in conjunction with a large square baler (LSB), which includes a bale chamber, a plunger mounted for reciprocation within the bale chamber, and an LSB drive line. In embodiments, the torque smoothing apparatus includes a planetary gear train and a flywheel, which is mechanically coupled to the LSB drive line through the planetary gear train. An auxiliary motor having a motor output is mechanically coupled to the LSB drive line through the planetary gear train, while a controller is operably coupled to the auxiliary motor. The controller commands the auxiliary motor to selectively apply torque to the LSB drive line such that the torque applied by the auxiliary motor, taken in combination with a torque contribution of the flywheel, reduces variations in torque demands placed on a vehicle engine as the plunger reciprocates during LSB bale formation.

A rotational drive is attached to the support structure and includes a crank rotatable about a rotation axis. An arm is coupled to the crank and includes an elongated slot. A carriage is attached to the arm and moves on the track along the path. The carriage supports a transverse face wrap roller for wrapping the transverse faces of the bale. A portion of the crank extends through and is moveable within the elongated slot such that a distance between the carriage and the rotation axis is variable.

    Abstract: A conditioner roller vibration sensing mechanism having first and second rotatable conditioner rollers spaced apart in close proximity to each other and between which cut crop can be directed as the rollers rotate during operation. The first roller is shiftable with respect to the second roller for adjusting the spacing between the rollers. The rollers vibrate when the rollers are spaced in such close proximity to each other that they contact each other as they rotate. An arm pivotally mounted to a frame supports the first roller, and the frame supports the second roller. The arm is movable to shift the first roller with respect to the second roller. An accelerometer is operatively coupled to the rollers for sensing the vibration created when the first and second rollers are positioned so close to each other to contact each other.
