  • Patent number: 8824891
Abstract: A method removes signal interference in a passive optical network. The passive optical network includes an optical line terminal, a splitting unit coupled with the optical line terminal, an optical network unit coupled with the splitting unit, and an identification signal uniquely associated with the optical network unit. The method includes the steps of sending a first signal, detecting the first signal, comparing the detected first signal with an identification signal and decoupling the optical network unit from the splitting unit if the comparing step results in a mismatch.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 2010
Date of Patent: September 2, 2014
    Assignee: Xieon Networks S.a.r.l
    Inventors: Lutz Rapp, Dario Setti
  • Patent number: 8493652
Abstract: The invention refers to a method for operating an amplifier with a first amplifier stage (A1) and a second amplifier stage (A2), pumped by a single pump light source (11) generating a primary pump signal (SPUMP), which is split into first pump signal (S1) and a second pump signal (S2) according to a variable splitting factor (?) for pumping the first amplifier stage (A1) and the second amplifier stage (A2) respectively. The splitting factor (?) is varied to achieve an optimized noise figure.

  • Patent number: 8189258
Abstract: An optical amplifier configuration for WDM (wavelength division multiplex) systems uses a common pump source connected to an input of an optical splitter deploying pump light via variable optical attenuators to a plurality of optical amplifiers. Control circuits determine individually the output powers of the amplifiers by varying the attenuations of the variable optical attenuators. Amplifier units based on PLC technology are implemented to reduce the size.

  • Publication number: 20060268392
Abstract: An optical communication line for transmitting an optical signal having a predetermined wavelength has a plurality of spans and at least one PMD compensation device adapted to process the optical signal so as to obtain in output a polarized optical signal having associated a maximum power fraction of the optical signal. The PMD compensation device is inserted between two spans of the line.

  • Publication number: 20060263094
Abstract: A PMD mitigation apparatus for mitigating the effects of PMD of a plurality of input optical signals, has a processing unit having a first input for the plurality of input optical signals, a second input and an output; a feedback control unit having an input coupled to the output of the processing unit and an output coupled to the second input of the processing unit. Under the control of a control signal, the processing unit is adapted to act on the polarization of the plurality of input optical signals separately so as to obtain at its output an aggregate having a corresponding plurality of polarized optical signals having associated a maximum fraction of power of the plurality of input optical signals. The feedback control unit is adapted to receive at its input a power portion of the aggregate of the plurality of polarized optical signals, to process the optical power portion so as to generate the control signal to the second input of the processing unit.
