  • Publication number: 20240103632
Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to providing gesture-based control of electronic devices. Providing gesture-based control may include determining, with a machine learning system that includes multiple machine learning models, a prediction of one or more gestures and their corresponding probabilities of being performed. A likelihood of the user's intent to actually perform that gesture may then be generated, based on the prediction and a gesture detection factor. The likelihood may be dynamically updated over time, and a visual, auditory, and/or haptic indicator of the likelihood may be provided as user feedback. The visual, auditory, and/or haptic indicator may be helpful to guide the user to the correct gesture if the gesture is intended, or to stop performing an action similar to the gesture if the gesture is not intended.

  • Patent number: 11812247
Abstract: In a device or method for rendering a sound program for headphones, a location is received for placing the sound program with respect to first and second ear pieces. If the location is between the first ear piece and the second ear piece, the sound program is filtered to produce low-frequency and high-frequency portions. The high-frequency portion is panned according to the location to produce first and second high-frequency signals. The low-frequency portion and the first high-frequency signal are combined to produce a first headphone driver signal to drive the first ear piece. A second headphone driver signal is similarly produced. The sound program may be a stereo sound program. The device or method may also provide for a location that is between the first ear piece and a near-field boundary. Other aspects are also described.

  • Patent number: 11805382
Abstract: A binaural sound reproduction system, and methods of using the binaural sound reproduction system to dynamically re-center a frame of reference for a virtual sound source, are described. The binaural sound reproduction system may include a reference device, e.g., a mobile device, having a reference sensor to provide reference orientation data corresponding to a direction of the reference device, and a head-mounted device, e.g., headphones, having a device sensor to provide device orientation data corresponding to a direction of the head-mounted device. The system may use the reference orientation data to determine whether the head-mounted device is being used in a static or dynamic use case, and may adjust an audio output to render the virtual sound source in an adjusted source direction based on the determined use case. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 11595754
Abstract: Audio processing for a headworn device can include obtaining ear geometry of a user. A frequency response or transfer function can be determined, based on the ear geometry of the user and a model of the headworn device, where the frequency response or transfer function characterizes an effect of a path between a speaker of the headworn device and an ear canal entrance of the user on sound. An equalization filter profile can be generated based on the based on the frequency response or transfer function. The equalization filter profile can be applied to an audio signal, and the audio signal can be used to drive the speaker of the headworn device.

  • Publication number: 20230020542
Abstract: A computer system outputs audio content via one or more audio output devices. If the audio content includes information that enables spatialization of the audio content, the system outputs the audio content in a simulated three-dimensional environment, including, if the audio content corresponds to a first category of content, causing the one or more audio output devices to simulate production of the audio content in a first virtual space, and if the audio content corresponds to a second category of content, causing the one or more audio output devices to simulate production of the audio content in a second virtual space that has different simulated acoustic properties than simulated acoustic properties of the first virtual space.

  • Patent number: 11523243
Abstract: An electronic device communicates with a display, an input device, and a wearable audio output device. The device displays a user interface with dynamic visual representations of participants in a communication session. Outputting, via the wearable audio output device, audio from the plurality of participants in the communication session. The audio is adjusted to maintain simulated spatial locations of participants relative to a frame of reference of the communication session, independently of a position of the wearable audio output device relative to the frame of reference. The simulated spatial locations correspond to the locations of the dynamic visual representations. Receiving an input selecting one of the dynamic visual representations. In response, displaying the dynamic visual representations at locations different from their initial locations, and outputting audio from the participants to position their audio at a different simulated spatial locations, relative to the frame of reference.

  • Publication number: 20220329965
Abstract: A media system and a method of using the media system to reproduce spatial audio based on head-to-torso orientation, are described. The method includes determining a head-to-source orientation and a head-to-torso orientation based on head orientation data generated by a head tracking device. Determining the head-to-torso orientation includes determining torso movements based on movements of the head. The torso can be determined to move when the head movements meet a head movement condition, such as a predetermined angle of movement or pattern of movement. A binaural audio filter that is based on a head-related transfer function corresponding to both the head-to-source orientation and the head-to-torso orientation is applied to an audio input signal to generate an audio output signal. The audio output signal is played to accurately recreate spatial audio having sounds emitted to the user by a sound source. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 11432095
Abstract: Virtualizing speakers for a headphone set can include determining a location of a display. Locations of one or more virtual speakers can be assigned based on the location of the display. A first virtual speaker can be located at the display. A position of a head of a user can be tracked. Audio content can be spatialized with a spatial renderer to generate spatialized audio signals, based on the tracked position of the head and the locations of the virtual speakers.
