Various embodiments include inducing differentiation of progenitor cells, such as embryonic stem cells; expanding the differentiated progenitor cells; combining the expanded progenitor cells and a biocompatible scaffold comprising a matrix material; and incubating the progenitor cells and the biocompatible scaffold so as to form a bone tissue module.
