Patent number: 7857809Abstract: A porous tip electrode and a catheter having the same are provided. The catheter generally comprises a catheter body, tip section and control handle. A porous tip electrode, manufactured by injection molding, is mounted at the distal end of the tip section and comprises a main electrode body and a stem. The catheter further comprises a first irrigation tube segment extending through the catheter body and into the proximal end of the tip section, and a second irrigation tube segment extending from the stem of the tip electrode into the distal end of the tip section. Means for energizing saline or other fluid that passes to the tip electrode can include an inner conductive sleeve in the second irrigation tube segment or a conductive material on the stem of the tip electrode. The energized saline ablates lesions in heart tissue.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2005Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: Biosense Webster, Inc.Inventor: Darrell Drysen

Publication number: 20100210891Abstract: Brachytherapy devices and methods that may allow high doses of radiation to be applied to areas in need of treatment, while reducing damage to healthy tissue that may be in the vicinity. The devices and methods may utilize an expansion device and a treatment device. The expansion device may include an outer expandable assembly that is implanted into a post-surgical cavity. The treatment device may include an inner expandable assembly that is mated to the expansion device during treatment fractions, and provides a pathway for the radiation source, for example an HDR (high dose rate) afterloader source.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 27, 2009Publication date: August 19, 2010Inventors: Darrell Drysen, Fredrick W. Wintch

Patent number: 7720517Abstract: The invention is directed to a multifunctional catheter handle. The handle comprises a handle body and a core mounted within the handle body. A piston is provided having a distal end mounted in the handle body and a proximal end extending outside the handle body, to which a catheter body can be attached. The piston is longitudinally moveable relative to the core and handle body. A first puller wire anchor is fixedly mounted to the core. A cam receiver is mounted in the handle body so that the cam receiver is longitudinally slidable relative to the piston and core. A second puller wire anchor is fixedly mounted to the cam receiver. A generally cylindrical cam is mounted distal to the cam receiver in surrounding relation to the piston and core. Rotation of the cam relative to the piston and core causes longitudinal movement of the cam receiver and second puller wire anchor.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2007Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: Biosense Webster, Inc.Inventor: Darrell Drysen

Publication number: 20090018383Abstract: A brachytherapy device may include an expandable outer cage an expandable inner cage positioned within the outer cage and configured to receive radioactive material at its perimeter. The expandable inner cage may be configured to expand, and the outer cage may be configured to expand to a variable diameter greater than the inner cage diameter so as to fill resected cavities of various diameters.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2008Publication date: January 15, 2009Applicant: NORTH AMERICAN SCIENTIFIC, INC.Inventors: Mia Michelle Corcione, Darrell Drysen, Fredrick W.
