Publication number: 20120252507Abstract: A communications system may include at least one mobile wireless communications device, and a wireless communications network for sending text messages thereto. More particularly, the at least one mobile wireless communications device may include a wireless transceiver and a controller for cooperating therewith for receiving text messages from the wireless communications network. It may further include a headset output connected to the controller. The controller may be for switching between a normal message mode and an audio message mode based upon a connection between the headset output and a headset. Moreover, when in the audio message mode, the controller may output at least one audio message including speech generated from at least one of the received text messages via the headset output.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2012Publication date: October 4, 2012Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: DARRELL REGINALD MAY, ALAIN R. GAGNE

Publication number: 20120209927Abstract: An e-mail filter may be associated with a schedule defining a recurrent active time period. As such, some e-mail filters may be active at specific times of day and on specific days of the week and inactive the rest of the time. Before applying any filters, the current time is determined and it is determined which filters are active. The determination of which filters are active is based on the current time being within the active time period.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2012Publication date: August 16, 2012Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Darrell Reginald May, Michael Thomas Hardy

Publication number: 20120131191Abstract: To facilitate resource reservation, a server can preemptively determine resource availability. Indeed, upon receiving an availability request for a desired attendee for a calendar event, the request specifying a date and time, the server can transmit a search request to a server maintaining an organization resource cache, which stores availability information for resources. Upon receiving, from the server, a search result, and based on the search result, the server can store, in a memory, an indication of a specific resource that is available at the date and time.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2010Publication date: May 24, 2012Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Darrell Reginald May, Robert John Thomas Bredin, David Mathew Cocca

Patent number: 8099592Abstract: A system and method for controlling data communications between a server and a client device, such as a mobile device. Embodiments relate generally to a technique where stop data is provided to the client device. This stop data can be transmitted (e.g. by the client device) to the server. When processed by the server, the stop data indicates to the server that at least some of the encrypted data received by the client device from the server was not decrypted using the second key (e.g. as may be the case when the second key has been deleted). Upon receiving the stop data, the server may, for example, withhold the transmission of data encrypted with the first key to the client device until the second key is restored on the client device. In one embodiment, the stop data is provided to the client device in an encoded (e.g. encrypted) form.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2011Date of Patent: January 17, 2012Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: David Bajar, Phillip Chi-Jim Luk, Michael Kenneth Brown, Darrell Reginald May

Publication number: 20090222747Abstract: A command identifying an electronic meeting definition created by a meeting organizer, using electronic calendaring software, and a modification to be made thereto is received from a user who is distinct from the meeting organizer. Based on the identified meeting definition, the user is determined to be a delegate of the meeting organizer for modifying the identified meeting definition, but not necessarily other meeting definitions. Based on that determination, a command for causing the software to modify the meeting definition is generated. The generated command is made to appear to the software as having originated from a user having sufficient privileges to modify the meeting definition (e.g. the meeting organizer). Delegates may be designated on a meeting-specific basis through a user interface. The designation may result in storage of a data record for future use in determining whether commands to modify that meeting definition shall be effected.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 29, 2008Publication date: September 3, 2009Inventors: Darrell Reginald MAY, Rob BREDIN

Publication number: 20080207263Abstract: Automated switching of notification profiles is provided on a mobile electronic device having a plurality of different notification profiles each specifying event notification behavior for the mobile electronic device. The device switches to a first notification profile to specify event notification behavior for the mobile electronic device, the first notification profile having a specified expiration time; monitors for expiration of the first notification profile in dependence on the expiration time; and switches, upon expiration of the first notification profile, to a second notification profile to specify event notification behavior for the mobile electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2007Publication date: August 28, 2008Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: DARRELL REGINALD MAY, Michael Thomas Hardy
