Abstract: A rotary shear valve having a rotor device and a stator device both with planar faces. The stator face includes a central port located at a common rotational axis, a second port radially spaced a radius R1 from the central port, and a third port spaced at radius R2. The second and third ports are in general linear alignment with the central port. The rotor face includes a first rotor groove extending radially outward from the common rotational axis to a position at radius R2 from the central port. The rotor device is rotatably mounted to the stator device for rotation thereof about the axis, providing fluid-tight, selective relative rotation therebetween between two or more discrete rotor positions. When in a discrete first rotor position, the first rotor groove is oriented in radial alignment with, and fluidly connects, the central port and the second port with the third port.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling the loss of perishable products while minimizing food investment loss. The system and method include an electronic database available via the internet and containing data related to perishable food and toiletry products including both planned and unplanned products as well as nearly expired or expired products for sale. The system and method also include a first computer used by a member retailer. The member retailer inputs data into the database regarding products for sale. A second computer is used by a customer interested in purchasing the products for sale. The second user can search by location or store type to find product for sale and can purchase the product for sale through the electronic database via the internet, thereby helping needy individuals in a community, allowing potential losses to be mitigated and sales increased by the member retailer.

Abstract: A method of displaying attachments associated with an electronic message displays an electronic message in a first instance of a client application (e.g., a web browser) running on a client computer. The electronic message includes one or more attachment viewing links, each link corresponding to an attachment associated with the electronic message and each attachment having a particular document type. After a single user selection of one of the attachment viewing links, a converted document (e.g., an HTML file) is transferred from a document storage system to the client computer. The converted document corresponds to one of the attachments associated with the message and the converted document has a document type different from the document type of the attachment. The converted document is displayed in a second instance of the client application.

Abstract: A microfluidic rotary valve and methods of manufacturing same are disclosed. The rotary valve includes a stator chip having at least one inlet and at least one outlet. The rotary valve also includes a rotor having at least one rotor channel in sealed engagement with the stator chip. The rotor rotates between valve positions preventing and allowing fluid communication between the inlets and outlets by way of the rotor channels and according to the design of the inlets, outlets and rotor channels. The stator chip includes a first planar substrate having a contact face and a second planar substrate having a contact face bonded to the contact face of the first planar substrate. The first planar substrate defines a first portion of the inlet and outlet, and the second planar substrate defines a second portion of the inlet and outlet.
