In some embodiments, the chestpiece assembly of the stethoscope further includes a timepiece subassembly to measure time during a vital sign examination. The switch subassembly of chestpiece assembly is configured to provide operational control of the current flow from the power source subassembly to the light emitting element as well as control over the acoustic valve subassembly that would inhibit or permit the transmission of sound waves from the diaphragm through the acoustic tube.
