Abstract: Game consoles utilize streamed content over a data network, such as multiplayer scenarios where disparately located players may interact with one another. Streamed interactions may be competing with other computing devices and associated software applications running in parallel. Such a competition for available bandwidth within may result in data congestion, which may in turn cause perceivable delays and/or jitter. However, some types of data are more susceptible to perceivable delays and/or jitter than other types of data. The presently disclosed technology distinguishes between types of streamed data content and tags the streamed data content according to a QoS metric. QoS packet tagging indicates a priority to handling the data within nodes and links of a data network. Further, the presently disclosed technology permits user configurable tagging settings that allow the user to customize tagging specific to their network environment.
