  • Publication number: 20240036324
Abstract: A head-mounted device may include a main housing portion and a temple housing portion. Displays in the main housing portion may be configured to present images that are viewable from eye boxes. A light-blocking cover may extend between the main housing portion and the temple housing portion and may be configured to prevent outside light from reaching the eye boxes. The light-blocking cover may have a stretchable outer fabric layer and an inner light-blocking layer formed from fabric or other suitable materials. The light-blocking cover may include slack in the inner light-blocking layer so that the inner light-blocking layer can accommodate movement of the main housing portion relative to the temple housing portion without sacrificing opacity. The slack may be heat-set, molded, or covered with a layer of elastic so that the slack returns to a retracted state within the temple housing portion after being expanded.

  • Publication number: 20230305301
Abstract: Head-mountable devices can include connection mechanisms that provide adjustable and exchangeable connections with other devices to enhance performance of the head-mountable device. Such connections can provide both mechanical engagement and operable communication between the connected devices. Accessory devices and/or external devices can be easily connected to provide different components and functions at different times as desired. Accordingly, a main portion of the head-mountable device need not include permanent components that provide every function that will later be desired by the user. Instead, the head-mountable device can have expanded and customizable capabilities by the use of one or more accessory devices.

  • Publication number: 20210376534
Abstract: High-speed connectors that simplify connectivity between electronic devices, are simple to use, and are readily manufactured. One example can simplify connectivity by including contacts for power, data, and one or more RF signals into a single connector. One example provides a connector receptacle having a tongue supporting contacts for data and power. A ground contact can encircle the tongue and a shield can be around the tongue, contacts, and ground contact. An RF contact can be positioned between the ground contact and the shield, such that the ground contact and shield provide RF shielding for the RF contact.

  • Patent number: 11190864
Abstract: A head-mountable device can include a speaker unit that provides structural support to its own components and electrical connections between other components. The arrangement of conductive strips within a back plate of a speaker unit can provide the structural support needed by the components of a speaker while allowing components on opposing sides of the speaker unit to be operably connected to each other. By providing both functions with the conductive strips of a back plate, the total space required is minimized so that the head-securement element (e.g., band) of the head-mountable device maintains a thin profile.
