  • Publication number: 20240377877
Abstract: A wearable electronic device can interact with a charging case to maintain appropriate power-consumption states while readily transitioning to other states in anticipation of user operation. As the wearable electronic device is accessed from the case, the wearable electronic device can transition to an active state earlier than if the wearable electronic device were to detect the user before transitioning to the active state. In the active state, the wearable electronic device can perform one or more of a variety of actions that are not performed in the sleep state or the off state. For example, by initiating a transition to an active state before the user dons the wearable electronic device, the displays can be ready to output the view earlier so that the user does not spend any or a substantial amount of time being unable to see or waiting for the displays to become active.

  • Publication number: 20240280818
Abstract: A head-mountable device can include modules that provide vision correction and operable connections between the modules. By providing head-mountable devices with modular features, certain lens assemblies can provide the desired vision correction for any given user and facilitate exchange with a different lens assembly for a different user. The lens assembly can identify itself and/or a feature thereof (e.g., vision correction and/or user identification) via an operable connection through the optical assembly onto which it attaches. By providing the operable connection through the optical assembly, part count, weight, complexity, and install procedures can be reduced. By sealing the cable providing the operable connect from an external environment, the reliability and robustness of the connection can be enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20240210712
Abstract: A head-mounted device such as a pair of glasses may have a head-mounted housing. The head-mounted device may include displays such as projector displays and may include associated optical components. The optical components may include waveguides that are used in providing images received from the displays to corresponding eye boxes for viewing by a user. Changes in the relative orientation between the displays and waveguides may warp the images in the eye boxes. To compensate for this effect, control circuitry in the head-mounted device may use position sensors to measure the relative positions of the displays and waveguides. Image warping due to misalignment between the displays and waveguides may be removed by applying compensating image warping to the images being produced by the displays.

  • Publication number: 20240184117
Abstract: A display system may include a waveguide, an input coupler with a first surface relief grating (SRG), and an output coupler with a second SRG. A display module may produce image light that is coupled into the waveguide by the first SRG. The first SRG may have an input vector non-parallel with respect to a normal axis of the waveguide. The display module may have an optical axis tilted with respect to the input vector by a non-zero angle. A prism may redirect the image light from the module to the first SRG in a direction parallel to the input vector. The module may include lens elements with an optical axis offset with respect to the center of the field of the image light. This may cause the lens elements to output the image light in a direction parallel to the input vector of the first SRG.
