  • Publication number: 20130283593
Abstract: A method of making a downhole swellable seal with a passageway therethrough includes, perimetrically surrounding a first tubular with a first substantially nonswellable material, perimetrically surrounding at least one second tubular with a second substantially nonswellable material, positioning the at least one second tubular adjacent the first tubular, perimetrically surrounding the first tubular and the at least one second tubular with a swellable material, curing the first substantially nonswellable material, curing the second substantially nonswellable material, and curing the swellable material.

  • Publication number: 20130008643
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a downhole sealing device. The device includes a swellable member, and a passageway having a perimetrically continuous wall. The swellable member is configured to cause sealing between a downhole structure and a plurality of tubulars when in a swelled condition, the plurality of tubulars are routed through a plurality of voids extending longitudinally through the swellable member, each of the plurality of voids has perimetrically continuous walls surrounding each of the plurality of tubulars.

  • Patent number: 7806193
Abstract: A packer assembly which incorporates a swellable elastomeric packer element and one or more swellable thermoplastic components. The swellable thermoplastic components are support rings that are located at each axial end of the elastomeric element and provide positive mechanical backups for the elastomeric element to limit extrusion of the packer element.

  • Patent number: 7478679
Abstract: A field assembled packer or plug features a sleeve of a swelling material, preferably rubber, which is slipped over the tubular. A pair of molds is assembled over the tubular. The molds can accommodate variation in the size and out of roundness of standard API tubulars. An epoxy mixture is formulated on site and pumped into the molds at opposed ends of the sealing element assembly and allowed to set up. The molds are removed and the assembly is ready to be run in the hole as a packer included in a tubular string. The element assembly can include a harder swelling material on opposed ends of the main sealing element to protect the main sealing element from damage during run in.
