  • Patent number: 4711187
Abstract: A fertilizer knife for subsurface application of fertilizer in liquid or vapor form in a ground furrow comprises a narrow, elongated blade having a width W.sub.1, a leading edge with a soil breaking segment and a trailing edge. An elongated, hollow, fertilizer conduit having a width W.sub.2 is located behind the trailing edge and is shaped to correspond to the trailing edge. A foot portion on the blade has a bottom edge extending from the leading edge upwardly toward and beyond the trailing edge to form a rearwardly extending shoulder. The conduit terminates above and is spaced from the shoulder to prevent back pressure in the conduit during movement of the knife through the furrow and to provide for flow of fertilizer away from vertical walls of the furrow. A hard, abrasion-resistant material over the soil-breaking segment forms a substantially flat surface having a width W.sub.3 on the leading edge. Soil contacting surfaces on the blade and conduit are covered by a dried, abrasion-resistant coating.

  • Patent number: 4458394
Abstract: A stake fastener for an animal trap in which the trap has jaws adapted for pivotal operation about a journal postincludes member for surrounding the jaws at a location proximate the post, attachment member for coupling the surrounding member to the post without interfering with the pivotal movement of the jaws, collar member connected to the surrounding member, the collar member adapted to receive a stake, a first tooth member protruding inwardly of the collar member for engaging the stake, and a second tooth member pivotally mounted on the collar member opposite the first tooth member having a series of teeth thereon pivotable between a first position at which the teeth do not engage the stake and a second position at which at least a tooth engages the stake.

  • Patent number: 4437774
Abstract: An improved drilling bit has a cone shaped cutter 22 rotatably mounted on a leg 16 by way of a central journal 18 and an annular journal 20. The annular journal is axially coextensive with the central journal. The cutter has outer collar 26 and inner collar 28 which interfit with the journals to provide a large surface area for roller bearings 30, 36 and 42. Additionally, the cutter may have a post 68 within cavity 70 on the terminal and of the central journal 18 so that roller bearings 74 can be provided to further increase the area of roller bearings handling radial loads. This increases the lifetime of the bit assembly. Ball bearings 50, 52, 66 and 72 are provided to handle axial loads, and ball bearings 54 are provided to retain the cutter on leg 16.

  • Patent number: 4300752
Abstract: A hog lot gate has top and bottom rails made of stainless steel, with a wide central portion, tapered in width and height towards both ends. The top surface of each rail has sloping crown faces and depending side walls to allow corrosive material to slide off the sides.

  • Patent number: 4270300
Abstract: An animal trap has two legs that are urged together by a spring, but are prevented from such movement by a pivotable cap on the end of one leg when the trap is set. A tongue mounted on a sleeve on the same leg as the cap prevents the cap from pivoting until an animal rotates the sleeve by displacing a trigger arm mounted on the sleeve. The cap has a convex tab which coacts with the flat tongue to permit the trap to be tripped even upon an incomplete rotation of the sleeve by the animal.
