  • Patent number: 9475172
Abstract: A power tool includes an output shaft defining a rotational axis and a housing from which the output shaft protrudes. The power tool further includes a flange at least partially surrounding the output shaft, a circumferential groove defined between the housing and the flange, and a radially inward-extending slot in the flange. The power tool also includes a rotatable guard having a first radially inward-extending projection and a plurality of apertures positioned radially about the rotational axis. The first radially inward-extending projection is receivable through the radially inward-extending slot in the flange and positioned within the groove. Furthermore, the power tool includes a lever having a detent member, and a biasing member for biasing the lever toward the rotatable guard. The detent member is receivable in one of the plurality of apertures to rotationally lock the rotatable guard relative to the housing.

  • Publication number: 20160243631
Abstract: A miter saw includes a base assembly and a saw unit pivotably coupled to the base assembly. The saw unit includes a saw arm, a brushless motor supported by the saw arm, and power electronics positioned outside the motor for supplying power to the motor. The power electronics are coupled to a structural component of the miter saw to utilize the entire mass of the structural component as a heat sink to dissipate heat generated by the power electronics.

  • Publication number: 20140054057
Abstract: A rotary hammer is adapted to impart axial impacts to a tool bit. The rotary hammer includes a motor, a spindle coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor, and a piston at least partially received within the spindle for reciprocation therein. A crank hub is coupled to the motor for receiving torque from the motor. The crank hub defines a rotational axis and includes a socket offset from the rotational axis. A pin includes a first portion at least partially received within the socket and a second portion fixed to the piston. The first portion of the pin is both pivotable within the socket and axially displaceable relative to the socket in response to rotation of the crank hub for reciprocating the piston between a forward-most position within the spindle and a rearward-most position within the spindle.

  • Patent number: 8061251
Abstract: A power tool includes a base, a table supported by the base for pivoting movement about an axis, a coarse adjustment assembly between the base and the table, and a fine adjustment assembly between the base and the table. The fine adjustment assembly includes a rotating member supported by one of the base and the table, and an engagement surface provided by the other of the base and the table. The rotating member is selectively engageable with and rotatable along the engagement surface to finely adjust the angular position of the table relative to the base. The angular position of the table relative to the base is coarsely adjustable using the coarse adjustment assembly when the rotating member is disengaged from the engagement surface. The fine adjustment assembly disengages the coarse adjustment assembly and maintains the coarse adjustment assembly disengaged when the rotating member is engaged with the engagement surface.

  • Patent number: 7802505
Abstract: A power tool includes a housing assembly having a housing portion and an arm extending upwardly from the housing portion. The arm has an outer surface. The power tool also includes a drive unit supported by the arm. The drive unit is operable to drive a tool element to work on a work piece. The power tool further includes a collection assembly operable to collect debris generated by the tool element working on the work piece. The collection assembly includes a collection chute assembly having an inlet and an outlet. The collection chute assembly is positionable on the arm to define, between the inlet and the outlet, a first path for debris around one side of the outer surface of the arm and a second path for debris around the other side of the outer surface of the arm.

  • Patent number: 5697456
Abstract: The invention provides a power tool including a tool body and a handle mounted on the tool body at an upper vibration isolation joint and a lower pivot joint. The lower joint permits pivotal movement of the handle relative to the tool body while giving an operator lateral stability and torsional control over the tool. The upper joint serves as a primary vibration isolation joint and includes a spring which is precompressed to a minor fractional portion of its unloaded length and which is positioned between the tool body and the handle to bias the tool body and the handle apart. The spring is compressible from its precompressed state responsive to operator applied pressure, and when operator applied pressure on the handle is maintained within predetermined levels the spring is operable to reduce transmission of vibration from the tool body to the handle during tool operation.
