  • Patent number: 10686543
Abstract: A controller for an optical network includes a network interface configured to communicate to one or more nodes in an optical network that includes a plurality of nodes interconnected by a plurality of links; a processor communicatively coupled to the network interface; and memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to obtain information related to a plurality of services that require spectrum assignment with each service given a time-constraint T for restoration to a restoration path and each service on its home route given a margin-constraint X dB for transients caused by restoring channels, classify each of the plurality of services in terms of viable paths in the optical network, restoration speed each viable path can tolerate, and re-tunability, and assign a home route and a restoration route, a restoration speed, and spectrum for each of the plurality of services based on priority.

  • Patent number: 10547404
Abstract: Automatic optical link calibration systems and methods include, in an optical section with an Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (OADM) multiplexer, an OADM demultiplexer, and zero or more in-line optical amplifiers between the OADM multiplexer and the OADM demultiplexer, wherein the optical section includes integrated measurement equipment, and wherein the OADM multiplexer and the OADM demultiplexer have a route and select architecture, obtaining measurement data from the integrated measurement equipment subsequent to turn up; determining an optimal target launch power profile per fiber span in the optical section based on the measurement data; configuring channel holders at the OADM multiplexer to meet the optimal target launch power profile per fiber span; and calibrating each fiber span to determine settings of equipment at the OADM multiplexer, the OADM demultiplexer, and the zero or more in-line optical amplifiers.

  • Patent number: 10237011
Abstract: Pre-programming Layer-0 optical protection path restoration speeds is provided based on available path margin. Higher layer routers and switches can be made aware of the expected Layer-0 restoration time, and their switch time can be programmed accordingly. The proposed method can provide users an option to program a restoration speed for a specific photonic service on a per restoration path basis. The method can highlight which services will potentially be impacted by the selected restoration speed on that path. The user can proceed with the selected speed for restoring high priority layer-0 services even if that means the fast restoring event can potentially impact other low priority services already in-service on the restoration path.
