  • Patent number: 10068473
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a proximity alert to the operator of a vehicle, such as a vehicle approaching a pedestrian crosswalk. A fixed or mobile controller (beacon) component when activated transmits a signal relating to a potential hazard, and a software application (“app”) installed on a smartphone or other device provides the receiver/notification component. The app delivers an audible, visual, and/or tactile alert to drivers via their smartphones, tablet computers, or mobile devices installed in their vehicles that they are approaching an “activated” pedestrian crosswalk, intersection, railroad crossing, road hazard or work zone, emergency vehicle, or even a bicyclist when they are equipped with a beacon.

  • Patent number: 8454188
Abstract: An in-roadway warning light (IRWL) apparatus incorporates a dove prism in the light beam path to embed an air gap inside the IRWL signal head housing and ensure that light from the LEDs is projected in the desired direction, while simultaneously providing moisture protection for the LEDs and associated electronics in the housing.

  • Publication number: 20100039291
Abstract: A wireless communication system for and between a monitored (“smart”) pedestrian crosswalk and an approaching vehicle, alerting the operator of the vehicle to the presence of a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The invention uses wireless electronic communication for transmitting signals to vehicles or motorists equipped with a compatible receiver. The communication is then interpreted by the receiver to provide an “alert” (audible and/or visual) to the motorist.

  • Patent number: 6750815
Abstract: A navigational system for surface vessels that provides warning of impending grounding occurrences. A data base of bottom contours and submerged obstructions is compared to various indicators of the surface vessel's position and motion to provide alerts and to display bottom hazards ahead of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 6496760
Abstract: In an aircraft flight information display system, a viewing surface of the display presents an observer with a view of the flight space forward of the aircraft. The viewing surface includes a section displaying a translucent plane of flight of the aircraft along its lateral axis having as an upper bound a line transverse to the lateral axis. The portion of the flight space upward of the plane of flight of the aircraft is displayed as a second section of the flight space above the line. Information of the features of terrain in the flight space, flight parameters of the aircraft and TCAS information is processed to form images of the terrain and traffic in relation to the translucent plane of flight of the aircraft. Terrain and traffic features are rendered in different colors according to their location with respect to the plane of flight. A series of ring-like indicia are displayed in the translucent plane to indicate the distance ranges in the plane of flight of the aircraft.
