Abstract: This invention relates to multi-purpose probe-based apparatus, and to methods for providing images of surface topography, and detection and quantitative mapping of local mechanical and electromagnetic properties in non-resonant oscillatory mode. These methods may include filtering of incoming probe signals. These incoming probe signals provide time deflection curves, parts of which are used for the control of scanning and collection of data that reflects sample adhesion, stiffness, elastic modulus and viscoelastic response, electric and magnetic interactions. These methods permit adaptive choice of an AFM's deflection set-point, which allows imaging at the contact repulsive force for precise surface profilometry, as non-resonant oscillation brings tip and sample into intermittent contact. These methods permit choosing a desired deformation model that allows an extraction of quantitative mechanical properties including viscoelastic response from deflection curves.

Abstract: Read margin measurement circuitry for measuring the read margin of floating-gate programmable non-volatile memory cells. In some embodiments, the read margin of a cell with a floating-gate transistor in a non-conductive state is measured by periodically clocking a counter following initiation of a read cycle; a latch stores the counter contents upon the cell under test making a transition due to leakage of the floating-gate transistor. Logic for testing a group of cells in parallel is disclosed. In some embodiments, the read margin of a cell in which the floating-gate transistor is set to a conductive state is measured by repeatedly reading the cell, with the output developing a voltage corresponding to the duty cycle of the output of the read circuit.

The device enables simulated weight-bearing action for the upper limb while maintaining good postural form. The device can also be used to provide feedback on good postural form. Abstract: Methods of diagnosing or prognosing a disease or condition associated with increased or over expression of macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) are disclosed. The methods typically involve detecting a change in the amount of MIC-1 in a test body sample from a subject taken at two or more time points. The change in the amount of MIC-1 may be adjusted for the effect of at least the following factors as appropriate: the gender of the subject, the age of the subject, the body mass index (BMI) of the subject, the subject being a smoker, the subject being a user of NSAIDs, and the waist-to-hip ratio where the subject is female. The methods are particularly suitable for diagnosing or prognosing the presence of one or more colorectal polyp(s).

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for proxying communication requests to services hosted on a data processing system. In one exemplary method, an open-ended configuration file is distilled to create an object tree from the configuration file. In addition, distillation creates communication handles for the services. The object tree is serialized and forwarded to a proxy agent. The proxy agent registers the service and monitors the communication handles for service requests by establishing a kernel callback. When a communication handle is readable, the proxy agent passes the communication handle to appropriate service.
