  • Patent number: 4533136
Abstract: A stationary exercise apparatus intended to simulate the action of pedaling a bicycle includes a base and a flywheel mounted on the base for rotation about a vertical axis. The flywheel is coupled in driven relationship to a pair of pedal cranks mounted on the base. The pedal cranks are mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis as in a conventional bicycle. Preferably, the flywheel is mounted directly below the pedals on a shaft whose upper end is formed to be a worm, the worm being driven by a drive gear attached to the pedal cranks. The orientation and location of the flywheel add to the stability of the exercise device as well as aiding in the outward appearance of the device.

  • Patent number: 4195751
Abstract: Cup selection apparatus in a vending machine of the "in-cup" type consisting of a plurality of cup-storage tubes, in each of which, in use, a stack of cups nested one in another is placed, a selectively-operable cup-dispensing device associated with each cup-storage tube to separate the bottom cup from a stack of nested cups in that cup-storage tube, at least one cup-delivery tube connected to the outlet end of each of at least two of the cup-storage tubes, a cup-guiding chute leading from the or each cup-delivery tube to a cup-filling station at which water is to be added to the dry ingredients in a cup, the cup-storage tubes, the cup-delivery tube or tubes and the cup-guiding chute being positioned so that a cup after release by the cup-dispensing device from a stack of nested cups in a cup-storage tube will travel by gravity to the cup-filling station.

  • Patent number: 4096856
Abstract: An EKG monitor/recorder and defibrillator which are contained in separate housings are mechanically interconnected by a tongue member located on an exterior surface of the housing of the EKG monitor/recorder and a groove member located on an exterior surface of the housing of the defibrillator. The groove member receives the tongue member with a translative, sliding fit to also permit easy disconnection and separation of the EKG monitor/recorder and the defibrillator. Electrical interconnection between the EKG monitor/recorder and the defibrillator is afforded by a pair of novel electrical slide connectors respectively located in the exterior surfaces of the housings in proximity to the tongue and groove members, with each electrical slide connector including a plurality of spaced-apart leaf spring contacts which, in assembly, extend parallel to the direction of translative movement of the EKG monitor/recorder and defibrillator housings.

  • Patent number: 4024841
Abstract: This invention relates to an internal-combustion engine of generally spherical configuration having a generally spherical rotor mounted on a rotor shaft in a generally spherical shell. Combustion chambers are formed in appropriate recesses in the rotor and the inside of the spherical shell. The recesses are bounded by fixed partitions and movable pistons between the fixed partitions so that a series of combustion chambers are formed one on each side of each piston. The pistons are each connected to a central hub at the center of the rotor, and the hub is rotatable to a limited extent in a direction perpendicular to the rotor shaft. The pistons are therefore able to sweep through limited angular motion and during each motion increase the volume of one series of combustion chambers and decrease the volume of the other series of combustion chambers.
