Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for selective removal of a conformal coating from the solder balls of grid array packages such that the benefits of the coating are realized. An ancillary benefit of the invention is improved process-ability of the grid array package by improving the mechanical containment of the solder during the reflow process and improved electrical isolation between the individual solder attachment points. For example, a method for coating a ball grid array is provided, which includes coating the ball grid array with a thin layer of parylene. Next, the solder ball side of the part is butter smeared or squeegeed with a water soluble coating and assembled wet. A mask having holes in the same pattern as the balls in the grid, and a thickness that is about 80% of the height of the balls, is applied to the solder ball side of the part. This side of the part is then butter smeared again with the water soluble coating, and the entire assembly is allowed to dry.

Abstract: The present invention relates to small sample spots for MALDI targets and methods for producing the same. The sample spots are composed of a layer of matrix material and a layer of analyte. In some instances, the samples spots have diameters of no more than 50 micrometers or even smaller. The sample spots are deposited onto a MALDI target substrate using ultrasonic deposition from a nozzle.

Abstract: An emergency running light for vehicles such as watercraft includes a cup-shaped housing made of a transparent, thin flexible wall which defines a cup-shaped interior chamber. A liquid component of a two-component chemiluminescent compound and a breakable capsule containing a second component thereof are disposed within the interior chamber. The running light is activated to produce a predetermined color of light by squeezing the flexible housing to break the container. This causes the first and second component liquids to form the chemiluminescent compound and resulting light. The housing is attachable to a surface of the watercraft following activation using an adhesive ring which engages a flat rim of the housing. Alternatively, the housing may be attached to a post-mounted running light of the watercraft which fits within an interior recess of the housing and attached using an adhesive disk.

Abstract: A method for reducing gastrointestinal inflammation, enhancing growth, or improving feed efficiency in a human or non-human animal is disclosed. The method involves administering to the animal an agent that can reduce the formation of the signal transduction complex of endotoxin, TLR4 and CD14 on the cellular surface of a cell in the gastrointestinal tract of the animal. In a preferred embodiment, an antibody against the extracellular domain of TLR4 or CD14 is used to reduce the formation of the complex. A composition that contains the antibody and an ingestible carrier is also disclosed. Further disclosed is a method for producing a peptide for enhancing growth, improving feed efficiency, or both in a human or non-human animal.

The system and method allow information providers the ability to influence position of their information tags by auctioning directory search terms associated with the information tag, and then ranking the displaying the information tags based upon the information provider's bid amount from the auction. The information tags then allow consumers access to information maintained on the same web site as the information tag. The system and method allows targeting of specific markets and facilitates a novel method of marketing through a communication network, such as the Internet. The method also allows for novel management of web-based advertising accounts and budgeting of information provider funds.

Abstract: A computer system having a video display runs an operating system that provides a desktop environment to a user and a file system. The desktop environment has associated systems settings that affect the desktop environment. In this method, a first set of values for at least a portion of the system settings are stored in a storage device in a computer network so that the first set of values is visible in the file system. A second set of values, for the same portion of the system settings for which values are stored in the first set of values, is also stored in the storage device such that the second set of values is visible in the file system. In response to a choice by the user between the first set of values and the second set of values, the system settings are updated to have the values specified by the chosen set of values.
