  • Patent number: 9240682
Abstract: Arc flash mitigation devices are employed to protect personnel during maintenance of photovoltaic inverters. During normal operation, an alternating current (AC) output of a photovoltaic inverter is coupled to a low voltage winding of a step up transformer through a bus-bar (e.g., an electrically conductive interconnect), which has higher current rating than a fuse. During maintenance, the bus-bar is replaced with the fuse. The fuse may be employed in conjunction with a switch. The switch may be a disconnect switch that places the bus-bar in parallel with the fuse during normal operation, and decouples the bus-bar from the fuse during maintenance. The switch may also be a transfer switch that places either the bus-bar or the fuse in series with the AC output of the photovoltaic inverter and the low voltage winding of the step up transformer.

  • Publication number: 20150304125
Abstract: A method, system and computer program for transmitting at least two payloads in a downstream traffic phase of a time-division duplex (TDD) cycle with a single preamble from a headend followed by concatenated payloads without intervening preambles, whereby the payloads are ranked by increasing modulation profiles. The preamble, and concatenated and ordered set of payloads are then transmitted to two or more predetermined customer premise equipments (CPEs).

  • Patent number: 9150288
Abstract: A riding board such as a surfboard extending from a tip or front end longitudinally to a tail or rear end. The rear end terminates at a board interface plate that is incorporated into and as part of the riding board. The board interface plate is adapted to be either the tail section of the riding board or alternatively, a coupling means for connecting a tail block to the rear end of the board. The board interface plate includes a plurality of spaced apart coupling cavities that extend inwardly into the riding board body from the rear end. The surfboard may also be used with an interchangeable tail block having a tail faceplate that interfaces and couples with the interface plate on the surfboard. The tail block may be configured to most any desired tail configuration, size and shape.

  • Publication number: 20150163167
Abstract: The use of traffic flag symbols allows a large number of CPEs to transmit traffic notifications to a network controller. In some such embodiments, hundreds of CPEs simultaneously transmit traffic flags on different subcarriers of a channel. For example, in a MoCA2 based access network, up to 480 CPEs can transmit flags in only 5 ?s in the 100 MHz-wide channel.

  • Patent number: 8774030
Abstract: A method of reducing resource overhead attributed to preambles in a communication system includes transmitting, at a transmitter, one or more signals including a first packet. The first packet is transmitted in a first time-frequency grant including a first set of one or more subcarriers. The first packet includes a full preamble including reference signal information for determining a total channel estimate for every subcarrier to be used in transmission of the first packet. A second packet is transmitted in a second time-frequency grant including a second set of one or more subcarriers without a full preamble when a receiver configured to communicate with the transmitter can determine a phase offset between the transmitter and the receiver from the signals received at the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20130315595
Abstract: A method, system and computer program for implementing TDD in an EPoC network. An OLT or CLT scheduler segregates the US traffic from the DS traffic to avoid collisions. An OLT transmits and receives payloads through an OCU. An OLT or CLT transmits downstream payloads and GATE grants destined for CNUs during the TDD downstream phases. The OLT or CLT schedules IPGs between TDD phases. The OLT or CLT schedules payloads and REPORTs to be transmitted from CNUs only during the TDD upstream phase according to the GATE grants in the DS phase. The OLT or CLT receives CNU REPORTs late in the upstream phase that inform the scheduler about pending upstream traffic to be granted in subsequent TDD phases.

  • Patent number: 8593983
Abstract: A method for characterizing a communication channel on a communication network includes receiving within a network node at least one silent symbol transmitted together with a packet, and determining within the network node the amount of energy received by the network node during the silent symbol. Determining the amount of energy may include comparing the amount of energy received during a first silent symbol with the amount of energy received during subsequent silent symbols. The packet transmitted with the silent symbol may include a preamble and the silent symbol may be transmitted before the preamble. The packet may include data symbols and the silent symbol may be transmitted for a duration that is shorter than the duration of one data symbol transmitted in the packet.
