  • Patent number: 7695680
Abstract: An assay system having a channel bounded by first and second reflective surfaces adapted to accommodate a fluid material therebetween and defining a plurality of regions in an array between those surfaces with each region defining a resonant cavity and adapted to receive a capturing material on a surface thereof whereby a source of radiation illuminates each region to provide a standing wave of radiation of within the cavity indicative of binding of said capturing agent to material under investigation, a binding thereof being detected in response to radiation from each cavity indicative of a change in the standing wave pattern.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20070110411
Abstract: An air heater is provided for use in buildings or other structures. The air heater uses infrared lamps to generate a temperature rise in a forced air chamber that contains several infrared lamps, in which two ends of the chamber act as an inlet and an outlet, and in which the chamber has a highly reflective interior surface that reflects the light being emitted by the lamps to multiply the thermal effect of the infrared light sources. An alternative embodiment uses a closed chamber, in which the temperature rise causes the unit to act as a detonator.

  • Patent number: 4286806
Abstract: A spark-generating mechanism for mounting on, and for use in combination with, a roller skate or roller skateboard. The mechanism includes a support bracket adapted to be attached to the skating device, to carry rotatably a grindstone wheel between two larger actuating wheels and to hold a spark producing element in resilient contact with the grindstone wheel. Positioned to be inoperative during normal skating, the spark-generating mechanism may be actuated at will by the skater's slightly backward tilting of the roller skating device while in motion.

  • Patent number: 4063403
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically closing cartons having self-sealing reclosable top closures adapted, when closed, to lie within the confines of the carton bodies, the end closures having opposing pairs of sealing flaps adapted to be juxtaposed in face-to-face contacting relation, preferably with the mouths of carton liners interposed therebetween, the juxtaposed sealing flaps and liner mouths being displaceable downwardly to close the cartons and thereafter displaceable upwardly to reopen the cartons, the apparatus comprising a series of continuously moving carriages which receive and advance the openended cartons in a path of travel, the cartons being first acted upon by sets of folding fingers which concurrently infold the leading and trailing end closure flaps and the projecting ends of the liners, whereupon sweep means act to juxtapose the opposing pairs of sealing flaps with the liners interposed therebetween.
