Patent number: 11356014Abstract: Circuits and methods for providing at least a startup voltage for reversed-operation unidirectional power converters or bi-modal power converters sufficient to power at least an auxiliary circuit of such power converters while the normal supply voltage to at least the auxiliary circuit is insufficient to enable operation of the auxiliary circuit. Embodiments of the invention utilize an initial startup charge pump circuit to create a suitable startup voltage while the normal supply voltage to the auxiliary circuit is less than a specified voltage VMIN. Embodiments of the present invention also provide additional benefits, including small size since the initial startup charge pump circuit omits the use of an inductor, and high efficiency since the initial startup charge pump circuit may be disabled when the normal supply voltage to the auxiliary circuit is equal to or greater than VMIN.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2021Date of Patent: June 7, 2022Assignee: pSemi CorporationInventors: David Andrew Kilshaw, Mark Moffat, Nigel David Brooke

Publication number: 20210305818Abstract: A high efficiency concurrent bidirectional charge balancing circuit (BCBC) for battery balancing that does not require high voltage transistors and which automatically transfers charge from a higher voltage cell to a lower voltage cell within a battery pack of multiple series-connected cells using a bi-phase charge pump, which may be an adiabatic-enabled bi-phase charge pump. The BCBC requires no complex external control logic to determine how the BCBCs are to be connected, charge balancing is performed without disturbing the series connections of the cells in a battery pack, and there is constant charge balancing across the entire charge range of cells in a battery pack. Because each BCBC spans only two cells, the voltage across each BCBC is the sum of the voltages from only those two cells; accordingly, the BCBC scales up to a large number of cells without requiring increasingly larger and more expensive high voltage transistors.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2020Publication date: September 30, 2021Inventors: David Andrew Kilshaw, Antony Christopher Routledge, Nigel David Brooke, Mark Moffat

Patent number: 10884148Abstract: A method of geophysical exploration in a seismic survey includes acquiring a set of seismic traces based on seismic data obtained by a seismic receiver, responsive to seismic energy reflected from a subsurface geology. Additional steps include performing reverse time migration on the seismic traces using a velocity model that represents velocity of the seismic energy propagating through the seismic medium. The migrated gathers have an amplitude based at least in part on the migration, which can be corrected by computing synthetic seismograms to provide compensated gathers. Amplitude versus offset and/or amplitude versus angle analysis can be performed on the compensated gathers, in order to generate a seismic image of subsurface structures in the survey area.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 2018Date of Patent: January 5, 2021Inventors: Carlos Calderón, Ivan Berranger, Wei Huang, David Brookes, Guoquan Chen, Gary Martin

Publication number: 20180046826Abstract: An external system (such as a website) that interacts with users communicates with a social networking system to access information about the users, who may also be users of the social networking system. If a privacy setting is changed in the social networking system, and the change applies to information that has been shared with an external system, the change is enforced at the external system. For example, the external system may be notified that the information is invalid and must be deleted, or the external system may periodically request the information so that changes to the privacy settings are eventually experienced at the external systems. When an external system again needs the information, whether expired naturally or actively invalidated by the social network, the external system sends a new request for the information, which is subject to the (possibly revised) privacy settings.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2017Publication date: February 15, 2018Inventors: Michael Steven Vernal, Wei Zhu, James M.
