  • Patent number: 7020685
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing hypermedia content maintained remotely on a network to a wireless device without a browser are described. A Short Message Service (SMS) request for Internet-based content is received from the wireless device at a proxy server, via an SMS Center (SMSC). The SMS request is transmitted to the SMSC on a wireless network. The proxy server transcodes the SMS request from a character set of the SMSC to a character set of an application and extracts a keyword from the trancoded request. The proxy server maintains a mapping of keywords to URLs. The proxy server looks up the extracted keyword in the keyword-to-URL mapping to identify the URL of an application associated with the keyword. The proxy server constructs an HTTP POST operation containing the keyword and the URL, and submits the HTTP POST operation to the application over a wireline network such as the Internet.

  • Publication number: 20020123335
Abstract: A method and apparatus for provisioning a mobile station over a wireless network are described. The mobile station contains a browser to allow navigation of hypermedia content. The browser sends a request for provisioning content to a remote provisioning server via the wireless network. The request includes a network resource locator. In response, the provisioning server sends a markup language document via a wireless network to the mobile station, containing a reference to provisioning content. The browser retrieves the provisioning content based on the reference and stores the provisioning content in the mobile station. The provisioning content is used in the mobile station to enhance a capability of the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6363419
Abstract: A system for displaying idle content information on wireless computing devices during idle times is disclosed. The idle content information displayed on the wireless computing device might display the network operators customer support telephone number or advertisements. In one embodiment, a browser program within the wireless computing device is used to display other idle content information to the user during such time when the wireless computing device is idle. The browser program may be modified to support looping content, interaction with idle displays, automatic scrolling, and automatic updating of idle content information.
