Patent number: 5996668Abstract: A blind assembly having a frame entrapping a set of blinds. The frame has an integral track upon which tilt and height control mechanisms are slidably mounted. A height control mechanism is slidably mounted on a vertical portion of the track, and the blinds are raised and lowered by movement of this mechanism. The mechanism is connected to a lift cord retained within the track and hidden from the user's view. This mechanism further includes a spring lock to engage the track and lock the mechanism, and thus the blinds, in a stationary position. A tilt control mechanism is slidably mounted on a horizontal portion of the track, and the blinds are opened and closed by movement of this mechanism. The blinds are protected behind a pane of glass or clear plastic.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1998Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventors: David A. DeBlock, Errol S. Patent number: 5983581Abstract: A tubular skylight having an improved dome improving the efficiency of the skylight and reducing the shadows cast by the skylight. The dome includes a substantially vertical rear face having an integral prism in a portion of its outer surface, and the rear face is offset inwardly from the perimeter of the reflective tube, thus allowing light to escape from the bottom edge of the rear face downwardly into the reflective tube. The integral prism does not extend to the top or front face of the dome, thus reducing the prevalence of shadows created by light rays entering the dome through the prism.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1998Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventors: David A. DeBlock, Joel E. Robinson, Ronald L. Sitzema, Jr.

Patent number: 5765325Abstract: A penetration resistant door light adapted to withstand impact from flying debris as might occur in a hurricane or other high-wind condition. The door light includes inner and outer frame halves that support a panel assembly within an opening formed in a door. The panel assembly includes a sheet or layer of transparent impact resistant material such as a polycarbonate or laminated glass. The impact resistant sheet is structurally secured to at least screws extend through all of the inner frame half, the impact resistant sheet, and the outer frame half. In an alternative embodiment, a structural adhesive intersecures the impact resistant sheet and the outer frame half.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1997Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: ODL IncorporatedInventor: David A. Patent number: 5655339Abstract: A tubular skylight having an improved dome improving the efficiency of the skylight. The dome includes an integral prism in a portion of its outer surface to reflect light downwardly through the skylight. The dome is hemispherical, and the prism includes a plurality of grooves extending along great circles that pass through the apex of the dome. The prism covers only an angular segment of the hemispherical dome; and the grooves stop short of the apex of the dome.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1996Date of Patent: August 12, 1997Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventors: David A. Patent number: 5544455Abstract: A skylight with a modular shaft. The skylight includes a curb surrounding an opening formed in a roof. The curb defines a downwardly opening channel with at least one serrated wall to receive the modular shaft. The modular shaft extends from the curb to an opening formed in a ceiling and includes a number of panels secured to one another by a number of corner connections. A hook with at least one serrated wall is mounted to each of the panels. The hooks fit into the channel such that the serrated walls contact one another and secure the shaft to the curb by a ratcheting effect.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventor: David A. Patent number: 4884376Abstract: The specification discloses a modular sun porch which can be easily and quickly assembled. The wall assembly includes a plurality of identical modular window panels whose lateral edges interfit in male/female relationship to provide weather seals therebetween. Modular door units, which have a width equal to one or more window panels, can be substituted for the window panels in the wall assembly and include frames which interfit with the male/female scheme. The base for the wall assembly is levelable and hides both the base tie-downs and the leveling mechanism. The roof includes rafters and purlins which slide-lock into position between beams and rafters, respectively. Roof panels rest on gaskets carried by the rafters and purlins, and retainers are secured to the rafters to retain the panels in position and to improve the weather seal.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1987Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventors: David A. DeBlock, Kert E. Artwick

Patent number: 4872498Abstract: The specification discloses a door light providing improved drainage, improved sealing between sashes, and improved sealing between frame components. Brackets are mounted on the sill at discrete locations to hold the screen and the movable sash off the sill to provide drainage and eliminate capillary action which would otherwise draw moisture to the frame interior. The meeting rails include resiliently deflectable interlock flanges which engage and are biased against one another when the movable sash is closed to improve the seal therebetween. A frame trim piece interfits with the frame body and deflects a resiliently deformable flap integral with the frame body to effect a weather seal between the trim piece and frame body.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1987Date of Patent: October 10, 1989Assignee: ODL, IncorporatedInventors: David A. DeBlock, Kert E. Artwick
